You're right about the cell being poor for general purpose code but wrong in the assumption that future code is going to be general purpose. Far from it, the next generation is going to be parallel, in order based and its going to have to be tailored for multi-core chips. Read the news on Nvidia planning to release its own line of GPU/CPU to challenge intel. Look at AMD buying out ATi. These manufacturers know what's up, and it ain't a general purpose processor design. Nvidia wants the...
I think you guys and this article writer need to really analyze and re-evaluate your perception on how technology works. When a new multicore platform of its kind is released with no predecessor, programming tools, programming concepts, to name a few things need to be made from scratch. That's how the industry has always worked when transitioning for vaccuum tubes, to transistors, to microcircuits, quantum processing, nanotech etc. What none of you guys grasp is that the Cell isn't just a...
Your complaint about the foot speed is exactly Kojima's way of encouraging team tactics and stealth play. If everyone could just sprint like COD4, there wouldn't be any use for CQC. You could just bunny hop backpedal out of someone's CQC range and pelt them with lead. high game speed is also a bad asset for a game that encourages sniper play. Snipers should be able to lead and pick off anyone dumb enough to stand in the open, but a high run speed makes is that much harder for their troubl...
I agree. Even without cutscenes theres a good 10-12 hours of gameplay easily... which is slightly higher than the industry average this console generation. So what is he complaining about?
"When it comes to videogame reviewing, critics should exercise a degree of professional subjectivity by not appraising games for the sake of peer conformity"
So... is that why you differentiate yourself by putting 79/100 vs 80/100? lol. Why not go down to 69/100 and let your balls really hang out?
Man
I got bored of COD4 right away. Its a nail or be nailed simplistic game. Nothing special from other fast paced FPS. If I wanted to twitch play, I would do it over a mouse and keyboard any whoop any console junkie any day.
I think MGO is a much deeper / tatical game than COD4 will ever be. That being said, COD4 is so easy to pick up and start shooting with, people are going to pick it simply b/c its friendlier.
It's a b*** to get a kill in MGO b/c the game makes you really work for it. But a kill in MGO is worth a hundred times over a kill in COD4. Anyone can pop anyone at COD4 anytime. MGO requires patience, placement, quick escape strategies, and precision raiding.
Just hit start and skip the cutscene. No need to sit through anything.

Gears may seem more seamless in terms of textures, but a drab environment isn't hard to make seamless for. if everything is grey or brown, you just won't differentiate low from high. Trust me when I say in GeOw, there are ALOT of low textures, but Epic is pretty clever about hiding it.
Contrasting GeOW, MGS4 has I would say about 40X-50X more textures to contend with, with environments that are colorful, extremely varied, and in my opin, difficult to pull off because they ha...
If you had actually played the game... I might believe you but your lack of details why makes your post just an outright slander. The game is definitely open accessible to non-stealth players and can be played like GeOW. However, if you put some stealth into it, this game rewards you with 6 more options than GeOw's single chain finisher including: chokeouts, jugular slits, takedowns, and executions. Plenty of "action" gameply if you ask me.
I think its interesting how so many "unknown" or "outside" publications are coming out to give this game a rating. MGS4 really is capturing the public's imagination and gamer lust.
And yes this game to me beat's the S*** out of any game i've played this console gen.
haha. I love how the reviewer disses the disguises as useless for online multiplayer mode. I have had so many stealth kills and escapes from people using the box carton that I think its funny. If he can't use the boxes or barrels to his advantage, that's his lack of creativity speaking. One of my favorite tactics if I'm being surrounded by people and being shot at in the bunker map is to drop down a hole, run to a pile of boxes in a corner and pop into my box. I usually have one guys drop ...
Hahah i find it funny you chose that trailer instead of this one:

This gameplay trailer shows a very impressive enemy count w/ animation.
Makes Left4Dead look like a counterstrike mod.
GeoW has a hazy background too. Its like a heat mirage effect, that's a little less intrusive but no less annoying.
Good points. I was wondering why they changed the roof design on that level. Mayhap like you said they are shaving polygons to reuse elsewhere. My opin is they might also be trying to even out framerates here for multiplayer gameplay and the addition of 2 extra charcs.
This goes to show that the first game really did tap out 90%-95% of the xbox 360's muscle. The changes aren't dramatic, but there are some nice touches.
Hey Vega75, weren't you a 1 game Ps3 Owner just a few newsposts up? What a dumbass. burrrrn!~
(my immature posting of the day)
What I want to know is which side has a larger disposable income. Now that would be relevant vs. rating statements.
You're opinion is duly noted, but sorely unappreciated. I doubt anyone, including me, could afford a PS3 for just 1 game the whole of 2008. Sounds to me like you're wasting your money and your breath.
the only people blowing bubbles out of their ass are like you peopele who think that the 360 is still comparable to the PS3. Doesn't it seem strange that everyone else in the world is ponying up the extra $100 to buy this console? The cell is really starting to show its superiority over the 360 now. It couldn't with existing programming tools and traditional programming mindsets, but that is all changing.
