What we're dealing with the eerie-ness of character models is called the uncanny valley. As a poly model's face approaches actual/realism, there is a point between stylized characters and actual face-scanned characters that raises goosebumps for most people. Both of you need to understand that there's very much a law of diminishing returns at play here. In this case it took 47,000 polys on Drake/Chloe in order to achieve that (what you consider as negligible) difference between ME2 charac...

Then do it. The best 360 character models I've seen so far are probably the ones from ME2 or maybe the multiplat Fight Night Round 4. ME2's isn't quite Uncharted 2 levels and even Fight Night Round 4 doesn't have what Heavy Rain's got. Sidenote: Neither game though has the animation that uncharted 2 has . Try the Heavy Rain demo, and watch the rain soak Shelby's coat, matte his hair, drip off his nose, and run down his face and neck when he's using his inhaler. It's really good.

Sorry to break it to some of you fanboys, but the PR shots earlier from gamersmint.com are bullshots.

@DMason and Norweigian Salvation: AlStrong at Beyond3D's forums is pretty well recognized as one of the longtime reliable pixel counters who calculate image resolutions on their boards. From what I can see, the pics do not show an ounce of aliasing and we all know with 10mb EDRAM for 2xMSAA that isn't possible.

These pics are 2560 x 1440 downscaled to 1280 x 720p. ...

Shots were taken on a PC at 2560x1440 ... full of bull.

I enjoyed listening to the soundtrack in the video. Very nice compositions. I want to see this vid in HD though before making any further comments.

I think the reload system is innovative in Geow, but the cover system has been done before:

HD means anything above 1280 x 720. Its the total pixel count of horizontal and vertical lines. Not just the VERTICAL lines.

@shaman
"Its still 720p...same 1152x720,if thats not 720p its a tiny bit beyond"

720p is 1280 x 720. It is not a tiny bit beyond at all. The game is sub HD.

That is not necessarily true dogbelief. When you have 1080i, the frames are interplaced, meaning essentially you are looking at a TV scanning at 1/2 the speed of a 1080p progressive. For sports that is a big hit in terms of shots catching high speed action. The only reason you probably think it looks better (besides) the higher resolution is because your TV has a dejudder and is artificially packing in frames to "make" it look smooth.

For sports, I would probably stil...

If you ever look at my postings... I tend to avoid these type of articles whether ps3 or 360 blasting titles. I think the hype train has gone through the roof and into the toilet. Its one thing blasting/comparing two titles when they are out. It's a totally different form of low when you have two non-existant titles, from two different genres, being debated about when nobody has seen either in real action.

This type of writing is just short of being two guys comparing who's dum...

I think you have your perspective skewed a bit. Publicly bashing a ps3 game in an article designed to inflame fans is just unethical. The results on this comment board are completely expected. Nothing wrong with defending at this point. It's so blatant the author is literally ordering fans to bash the article down.

I don't think people's responses have anything to do with how 'competitive' the 360 as a console is in terms of graphics. It's just a public flamewar.

That's called sarcasm. Notice how "jeezus" is spelled incorrectly at the end. You don't need to give me a lesson in "leetspeak." And no, Woz and cummin are "your speak"

Whatever you do, it sure doesn't require you to spell... jeezus.

*shakes head* MS & fans are giving their last push here it seems to change public perception. I dunno, but such narrow sighted and blatantly biased crap can only be taken so far. I can't handle this type of tripe coming out of MS PR & Sons anymore.

Face it, both franchises are at the end of their rope. Santa Monica is trying to end God of War III with a bang. Microsoft is just trying to milk Halo for every godamn penny 360 peons can come up with before they part ways w...

I can kind of see what marceles is saying. For example, Me2 has the exact same emphasis as HR on character polygons to the exclusion of the environment. HR has the entire game mo-capped/hand animated, while Me2 is only mo-capped during in-game CG scenes. Plus I could easily venture to say that HR does carry more texture and graphical assets, even though ME2 has a bigger world full of crates and barrels.

So why is HR getting nitpicked for that? Is it intentional bias? Probably ...

The first 4-5 shots had me thinking the ps3 version was better, but then the last 4-5 had me thinking the 360 was better. My conclusion? A draw.

I think the problem with these pics comes down to very one simple thing. There is no LOD to speak of in this game. So really how the textures look depends upon how close or far the person is when taking an image capture of the scene . I think I am making a pretty qualified statement when I say that the closer you are to the object......

Because that oversized iPod might just be the right bridge between a notebook vs a PDA. Netbooks fail for this job b/c they try to do everything and they suck in speed. PDA/phones are fast but the screens fail. Notebooks are too clunky for casual enjoyment. I use 90% of my netbook for surfing and some notetaking/word processing. For that... it sucks cuz its SOOO slow.

5980d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Agreed. Netbooks can do "everything" but they are slow as molasses and that makes them literally next to useless when i just need to jot down notes. Open netbook, wait, wait for it to come out sleep, wait wait... f**k that. My Lenovo S-10 runs faster on OSX 10.6 than Winblows 7 and I still have issues with it for casual use. Since owning one of these crap buggers, my key criteria has changed from pure portability, to usability with speed. If the iPad can do 80% of what a netbook...

This comparison felt amateurishly written. There isn't any real discussion of technology involved in the making of the games. Things like texture resolution, anisotropic filtering, SSAO, LOD, art direction. The focus seems to be on mocap expressions ... and how the writer feels about things... ugh.

Look guys, tech wise, Heavy Rain's overall quality is higher. The art direction is drier and certainly nowhere near as colorful or eyecatching as Uncharted 2, but that's where we d...
