Wow...I can't even imagine how much money Microsoft has thrown into what is for them a giant Japanese toilet-bowl. Microsoft is only keeping the bowl with the lid up due to pride and image. Just as they named their next console "360" instead of "2" so as to not appear in anyway less than Sony, they can't give up in Japan even though billions upon billions of dollars have gone down the drain there.

Rushing a console out against a tried and true established name brand like Sony is just a bad, bad, bad idea. I think Microsoft just thought that they can throw money and advertisements and propaganda and Halo at the world and they would bow. But it's going to take a lot more to destroy the house and name that Sony has built.
If Micrsoft rushes the 720, be prepared for deja vu, and a bunch of pissed 360 owners.

Wow...this is a major punch to the HD DVD's ribcage. I still say that this format war was over once the PS3 came out. We who bought the PS3 won the battle, and all we're seeing now are HD DVD's death rattles.

Agreed. As much as I love the PSP, I too am pleasantly surprised that it's managed to come so far against the DS.
But the article mentions that Microsoft opted not to buy Nintendo in 2000. Sheesh...imagine if they did...

Oh, I have a wonderful job and more than enough money to buy all three consoles. I just don't see the point. I don't like kiddie games and I don't like FPS games. There is absolutely nothing on the 360 or the Wii that would compel me to buy an entire system for them. I do own a PSP and a DS, because both systems have games that I like.

Considering the fact that the 100 million mark is the goal for these newest consoles, a swiftly vanishing 7 million lead is very nothing. The lead is not HUGE at all.
