Great world and fun gameplay but the story is nonsense. All of the anime looking enemies either look ridiculous or like poor imitations of final fantasy characters and their dialogue is awful. This series needs a new writer, cut scenes go on and on but the writing is simplistic and the story is beyond convoluted. Its either "His heart is in my heart!" type gibberish or "way to go Sorah!"
I've always thought loot/grind games like Destiny, Diablo 3 and Borderlands were overrated repetitive trash but I'm enjoying Anthem. The story is throwaway but the graphics look excellent on the Pro or the X, the flying mechanics and shooting are well done and the interface lets you turn off immersion breaking junk like damage numbers. Metal Gear V was the worst in the series; terrible minimalist story, pointless empty open world with the same bases repeated over and over and no memorable music or locations. And that silly fire monster man in the intro was a joke.
If this is the guy that presided over the wii U and then continued to make the same mistakes with the switch then why is he being celebrated so much? Maybe now nintendo consoles can get some third party support. Even the switch seems like a mistake compared to what a true next gen Nintendo console could have been. Maybe the new CEO will push for that.

I don't understand why simplistic RPG style combat reminiscent of something dated like the original Witcher is so popular that all these studios are copying it. One of the worst aspects of the gaming industry is the trend of studios just copying elements of a successful game rather than creating something innovative or original themselves.

Unless it's something inexcusable like raplay or whatever that game was called then "offensive" content should be allowed to exist and consumers can make up their own minds. I love when nintendo fans act like ports and cheap indy releases/downloadable titles count as full games. The switch hasn't had a great first party game since launch that wasn't a port. wii u all over again.
It also looks like a third person destiny clone. I agree that the gameplay seems boring and generic. What a waste. So tired of grind heavy xp centric games like this, destiny and division. Do something original. How about some co op with a good story? Where is a next gen Army of Two even?
Look at all these people trying to spin these results. Just admit that the specs of the One X are better than the Pro and that the definitive version of Red Dead 2 is on the X. Can't even acknowledge that better hardware=better performance without making excuses. This is why it's best to have both consoles if you can rather than being some cheap fanboy blindly loyal to the one system they own.
I forgot about that, Binary Domain was good and kind of what I was hoping this would be or at least something markedly different from the Yakuza games. And that came out when 2012? So they've been doing yakuza games and remakes for six years since then and still want to do more of the same. I don't get it.
I hate to say it but gameplay wise this studio is pretty one note. This looks so much like Yakuza it's ridiculous, even the environments look the same. They've been doing Yakuza games for 15 years and their new next gen IP is just more of the same?
Love Yakuza but this is a disappointment.
Yeah, for everyone who enjoys 1 or 2 good games every 2-3 years. Everything released since launch has been a port or re-release which is a huge disappointment especially considering the laughable online and lack of virtual console. Can't wait for the next great Switch exclusive in 2019 then the next one in 2021!

I'm a huge Yakuza fan but this is a little too much like what they've made before. The fighting looks exactly the same and so does the world. Disappointed that this isn't something different; Six Yakuza games not including he remakes and they want to make a new IP with identical gameplay....

Glad to see this article. Suffering and Suffering Ties that Bind were both excellent. Great enemy designs by Stan Winston, good story and dialogue, solid gameplay and excellent atmosphere. I loved the visual trip outs and nightmare sequences. Both games also had a morale/choice mechanic that affected the way Torque looked and changed the ending which added to the overall experience. It would be fantastic to at least see a remaster of 1 and 2, or better yet a Shadow of the Colossus style full ...

The actual percentage of women who play AAA CONSOLE games, not cell phone games like that misleading statistic would have people believe is far less than the percentage of men who play. Why should a vocal minority be catered to at all times? If any group wants to be more represented in games or any other medium of entertainment then they should go out and create content rather than demanding that everything is tailor made for them.
