If the rumor has any merit, it costs money for people to send in their broken xbox 360's for repair. Microsoft does not pay for the postage.
And Microsoft charges $140 after the warranty expires.
And, when the broken console is being repaired, you are still paying for Xbox Live... and you don't get to use the full service you pay for. That's also a ground for legal action and compensation.

If the rumor is true, then Microsoft should fix the problem before it continues to tarnish Microsoft's reputation.
If this rumor is false, then Microsoft should come out and pursue legal actions against people or, company, that tries to tarnish Microsoft's reputation.
Either way, Microsoft cannot continue to say nothing and do nothing, because this rumor is spreading like wildfire and it's out-of-control.
Well, if 360 owners really have been having so many hardware failures, then they should file a Class Action against Microsoft.

Seriously, the US is a nation that's full of frivolous lawsuits. I would have thought by there would be at least some major lawsuit against Microsoft and 360 by now. Why hasn't there been a Class Action or judgement against Microsoft on this issue?

Seriously, I'm starting to think there's some negative "viral" campaign going on. I've never seen anyone who complained about 360 hardware issue posted his ID to let people verify that he's real. (Well, actually, I've seen a guy who claimed he had the ring of death and then posted an ID, but then other people checked and then the ID turned out to be a fake.)

Not Sony. You can google it. In fact, Sony is not even in the top 5 in Japan. The largest 5 game developers in Japan are (in descending order): Nintendo, Sega, Namco Bandai, Konami, and Square Enix -- that's counting all the studios in their holdings. Sony is not one of the "Big 5".

Heavenly Sword and Uncharted may surpass everything that is out on 360 now - BUT - Mass Effect and Age Combat 6 will surpass Heavenly Sword and Uncharted by the time they come out.

You completely left out Ace Combat 6, which has recently become the third most wanted game on Xbox after Halo 3 and Mass Effect. (It's rated about the same as Bioshock as "the most wanted upcoming 360 exclusive.")

Just so you guys know: before I bought my first console, which was a Xbox,) I had always detested console gaming. For me, console gaming (including the previous Playstation) had always been substandard compared to PC gaming - in the 1990s and early 2000s. Then, Microsoft started promoting Xbox at the expense of PC gaming, until more and more PC gamers are being forced to migrate to Xbox because so many good single-player games have left the PC.
