And by 2000 we could go in ever crack and if there was a viewable ledge chances are you could stand on it - now it's all pretty images with invisible walls that stop you climbing / interacting (Call of Duty games are an excellent example) etc.
Gameplay has taken a huge toll in favour of pretty graphics and cinematic effects.
I tried to play the multiplayer yesterday but there weren't enough online players to create a game.
Really?? ok I take the primetime bit out :)
Bad me!!
Ahhn switching servers so the backup will now be the primary with updates.....
Ermmm No why would Sony spend the network subscription cash on keeping the network up.
and it may be 1st thing in the morning for you but in UK/Eur it's in primetime hours.
I'm not suggesting that at some point one of the PC game network services doesn't go down rather there's plenty of other choices available.
If Steam went down it wouldn't effect me playing Battlefield 4 / Hardline etc. etc.
If Origin went down I could still play Bad Company 2, BF2142, BF2 etc or a Cod, UT, Quake game.
There are just so many games that don't require Steam/Origin/Ubisoft services.
When PSN goes down ...
You can pick up Black Ops 3 for £20 so £27 for a game with a half of the content is really a joke.
(BF Battlefront - 23B)
(BF Hardline - 47GB)
(Black Ops 3 - 54GB)
As you can't trade in digital versions they should be much cheaper by default - especially those season passes or rather those pay up to a year in advance for a few maps that may or may not be a load of crap.
PC gaming isn't just Steam
As for Rainbow Six why not just update it via Ubisoft instead.
Or PC.. doesn't go down.
if a game requires a download thats anywhere near 10gb its definately not a patch unless they are admitting the entire game is faulty in which case just send me a replacement CD!
The problem with forcing large downloads is there are still many that are on limited download broadband services - ie. BT fibre basic package is still 40gb per month and then there are many still on much slower services due to location.
I bet you'd come back if they added space battles etc as in the previous BF Starwars game :)
one thing that is different is with Cod's theres quite a lot of items to upgrade / modify while in BF Battlefront most upgrades were collected within a very short time.
There were more Starwars like upgrades etc in BF2142 (ie. projection image of you) and if you ever played the BF1942 mod Galactic conquest - well it was just huge with 50+ maps including space combat - so much closer to the full Starwars theme.
My comment with regards digital games is only within the context of the report which demonstrates a much larger acceptance of digital thru PC and mobile (ok not a lot of options here) compared to consoles.
I think one of the biggest issues / setbacks with digital only format comes from the console market.
The total lack of competition which can be seen by the ridiculous online store pricing and the rights of the consumer not to be able to sell their 2nd hand software is effectively putting a wall in the way.
The amount of revenue from mobile gaming is interesting as it shows the lowest priced games are creating very high revenue - maybe the console publishers ...
GAME will just deter VR by using their pricing methods, who's going to buy into an £899 VR headset
I played them on all when supported :)
Well it's not a game starved format like consoles as there's new titles being released every week plus the benefit of user created mods / conversions for existing games.
A few new games from this forum look interesting:

and checkout
BF4 has some really superb graphics particularly noticeable with the land/sea maps but I find the game feels sluggish / strange (just can't put my finger on it) when compared to previous BF versions (loved Bad Company 2).
Most of all though I miss the user created content that was for the most part far better than offered by the devs.
It's not the engine as Starwars Battlefront feels much better (though seriously lacking in content).
...
My pirate games stopped with the end of Mr Blobby CD's.
I really only used them as demos anyway and bought games I really enjoyed.
You might want to rethink your comment to online gaming. On the PS3 quite a few online games were still playable even with PSN down as the account / lookup servers were run by the publisher etc.
Also I can watch iPlayer, Prime but not NowTV
How about a BF WW2 alternate reality.... BF-RTCW :)
