The fact that people consistently demand for remakes of old games is just a testament to how unoriginal and unremarkable games nowadays really are.
I for one would not want a remake. I'd rather see originality and innovation in new games.
I've been hearing 40k, 10k, 1k - I don't even know what's true. I agree it is a ridiculous amount, considering it's 'supposed' to fix a game on their platform, but the issue and responsibility ultimately lies in the hands of the developer of said game.
Or ya know, Konami could have done a better job in getting it right the first time. There's absolutely no excuse for the issues that Silent Hill HD Collection has/had. As I said in a previous post, this generation sucks. The ability to 'fix' games post-release has allowed for some very rushed and unpolished game launches. The whole 'release first, fix later' mentality has really bogged this generation down. I know games development costs are higher than ever but as I said ...
God this generation sucks. Nothing but bad business practices, rushed titles, heavy dependence on post-release patches, over abundance of DLC, console exclusive content, the list goes on.
Ever since developers have had the ability to change the game via patches and use of internet services, we've seen a considerable lack of polish in titles upon launch. I know the development costs are higher than ever, but for companies like Konami, Bethesda etc - there's no reason ...
Really, Dead Space 1+2 are what RE5+6 should have been.
I can assure you I know the difference between a demo and a beta - my point is, we shouldn't HAVE to test the game. That's what QA testers are paid for. Releasing the beta in the form of a 'giveaway' or competition is just really stupid and a trend that's been growing and growing over the years. It's just a cheaper alternative to hiring more QA testers, and by advertising it as a way to play the game earlier - they instantly get people intrigued.
The g...
They really need to release a 'beta' for a racing game nowadays? Wow.
When I read something like this it makes me think 'Ok guys, we knocked up this prototype game that's kinda like Mod Nation Racers, but we're not too sure about it - can you guys play it for us and tell us if you like it or not?'
versus a proper demo which (in most cases) is a DEMOnstration of the final product, meaning they've already got the game made and are te...
Oh please....
If this was a new developer or an indie studio I could possibly understand. But these are big budget studios who more than have enough money to fund enough work into testing various PC configurations. As it is, *most* other companies seem to be able to release their games on all platforms at the same time. Capcom and Ubisoft on the other hand are just awful. Let's see:
Rayman Origins - Consoles: November 2011, PC: March 2012. (4 months)
Not to mention that site is terrible. Slow, full of pop ups and really, as people said - grasping at straws for GTA5 info.
I fail to understand why it's so hard to release a PC game the same day as consoles. Shitty industry...
Another example of technology that just isn't there yet.
@DivineAssault
I agree to an extent, but we were all saying the same thing 10 years ago. 'How could games look/play any better than this?!' it's not our jobs to find ways to evolve the medium, that should be the jobs of the designers. But it's all to easy to make games just like every other and claim it's because you're trying to reach to a wider audience. We need some ambition and soul back in the industry!
It's never been bad because it's been too scared to evolve beyond the first game which was successful.
Obviously there are exceptions to what I'm saying. I've seen The Last of Us, it looks great. Being developed by a trusted developer but without physically playing it, it still just looks like a *really* good over the shoulder third person shooter with a cover system and stealth mechanics.
Graphics...graphics...graphics . I wish with this new technology we have, developers would be more ambitious than to just offer better visuals. How about designing new mechanics and gameplay elements that were previously not possible? I'm sick of this constant push for 'realistic visuals' We might as well call the next generation of consoles 'an upgraded graphics card' if that's all they're going to do with the technology.
It really chafes me when people use the word 'hardcore'. It's such an elitist term. You either play videogames or you don't. 'harcore' and 'casual' are stupid ways of saying 'This is a game aimed for a younger audience, and this is a game aimed towards an older audience' splitting them into two elitist words causes nothing but arguments and confusion.
It's like saying a movie like Toy Story is a casual movie, and Prometheus is a har...
I often like to viddy some of the ol' ultraviolence. Especially whenever some bolshy davotcka is involved.
But really, this guy helped design Deus Ex - listen to him. Right right?
Genuinely surprised it hasn't done better. Then again, same release day as Diablo III couldn't have helped. Then again, Diablo III is just 1 platform. Strange.
haha! Reminds me of my friend who kept calling Lara Croft 'Tomb Raider' as if it was her actual name. Pissed me off no end.
That's hilarious, because that's practically the entire Kinect game catalog.
