I agree that most console heads will buy one but they aren't that overpriced.
Besides that, comparing a pre-build PC with bespoke MB's with a self build PC is apples vs oranges anyway. Building your own machine even though it's fun doesn't factor in labor time.
Clearly you don't know what your on about. Why reiterate my point?
Anyway I don't think you actually realize how many games are on steam that are simply not coming to console any time soon. What indies appear to be coming to consoles soon? Old Minecraft again..? Sources pls. Maybe a handful at best and they take their sweet ass time just like GTA5 to PC. What about the non indie titles like Star Citizen. You've overlooked far too much but I think we can both agree...
And because Steam OS offers a gaming PC alternative to Windows and more importantly Direct X. So does AMD bringing in Mantle but I won't overload you with facts just yet.
Dude he's trolling MS as a company. Gabe generally dislikes Windows OS especially since W8 because of how closed and locked down its become. That's why Steam OS was created.
Vavle have absolutely 0 to lose having all these hardware vendors bring their own Steam Boxes to the market. They can only gain. And I'm betting (pure speculation here) people who already own a PS4 would much rather a Steam Box than an X1
The Alienware steam machine ships with a steam controller. Obviously it depends on the vendor. There's only 1 reason I can think of that you would be hating so much...
Defending a purchase comes to mind
Do you even realize what a stream machine is?
If you have a good PC you don't even need a steam machine.
Someone that already has a console and wants to play PC games might though.
Exclusives... Hello... PC games
Installing Steam OS on a regular PC makes it a steam box according to vavle. Not enough Steam OS exclusives..? Install Windows.
Pre build steam boxes are a easy way for people who don't own PC's to be able to play some PC ...
Me too
I like what you've written and a lot I agree with. 4k seems is easier for Devs to account for than real time ray tracing, which is probably more CPU dependent in general (not using nvidia Phys X).
But I'm with you on this one. Maximizing visuals at 1080p has someway to go yet.
Monster card. I'd be waiting for Maxwell if I were building a new rig. Yeah this card is a lot of money but there are a lot of people with 3 monitor setups and 2k screens that can justify the expense.
Some PC enthusiasts don't care how much if costs. It costs money to be on the bleeding edge. It's obviously worth it for them, and the fact is PC gamers save a heap of money on games and not paying online fees which leaves them these kinds of opportunities.
For those ...
Still. if you compare the current library of Linux games on Steam to the current console library of games, it looks massive.
Otherwise just install Windows is its not enough.
Some exclusive that I play are:
Shadow Warrior
Metro Last light
Sniper Elite v2
Day Z
Assetto Corsa
Test Drive Ferrari
Nascar 2013
Arma 3
Rising Storm
Trine 2
7 Days to Die
Chivalry
War of the Roses
Killing Floor
Serious Sam series
Not to mention all the Elderscrolls series and other games with mods. Plus that list above probably cost me around $130...
They already do - The current GPU's that are out! What point are you missing here?! The idea of Steam machines is they are open and upgradable with current off the shelf PC hardware. They don't need to be specified for niche closes system designs - That's totally goes against this whole movement. You don't need to be told what you can and can't do anymore - Grow up and think for yourself.
You couldn't be more wrong. Steam want this to be open platform, that's the point! I'm not sure how you reached your conclusions there but its entirely untrue.
They will ship with Steam OS (which is basically their custom version of Linux) and you can install Windows if you so wish. Its up to the user. The way it should be .
@ dsswoosh
Lol wrong wrong wrong..but sorry.
This GPU can already run BF4 at 1080p at 60fps. As we all know X1 and PS4 aren't producing those results. Not even close.
Bad luck for you then
I have to agree with you on this Lukas. All the graphic mods are great. I can fall in love with Skyrim all over again, I run them too but I don't like discrediting the original game feel/lore.
Yeah so no pink haired FFantasy women running around with shock rifles etc.
Not really. I use similar mods, texture packs, overhauls and ENB's and can run 1080p 60 fps while recording at 1080p 60 fps lol.
I do run a SLI rig though. Long live Skryim!

Yep that sounds crap. I hope they get this game right but I seriously have my doubts. They should have done coop or a limited single player online coop like dark souls. MMO engines are always dodgy.
@ KrisButter
EXACTLY
@ Foxtrot
Nothing you've said is common sense. Nothing I hate more than TES know it all's/ phony purists like yourself who say they don't want online but have never honestly followed the series.
Obviously you've never heard of An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire which had coop back in 1997.
Now what do you have do say about your broken logic?! It's not as hard as you make it out to be...
There's 0 fact in your statement - that your opinion.
Why would anyone with a decent PC go out and buy a steam box when they can simply install steam OS on their current rig for free? C'mon mate - think about it.
