You're mistaken. It still involved the chief and picks up exactly where 3 left off. Spanning the exact same story over 6 games is worrisome that they'll ruin what make the first trilogy so great....it's like them trying to make a mgs5.....know when to leave a franchise be and don't destroy what made it great by not knowing when to quit.
That's what I hate about media, instead of knowing when to quit and letting greatness be greatness they just keep pushin...
As someone who grew up with halo, it does have a special place in my heart. That said, I find it hard to believe it'll keep that same spark over yet another trilogy. This second trilogy I find worrying. They should have just started a new story within the universe instead of milking the chief. Stretching it out like this does really worry me. To make it complete i'd love to also do this for ac3 when it releases but as it will probably include mp, I doubt I'll be able to. The fact that AC has mainly been singleplayer and it's just a matter of completing a task and not necessarilly (need to be good enough) based was one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much and did it. (lol) it was just more fun instead of frustrating in that way.
I'm in the same boat, only on 360. Ac2 is the only game i've completely completed. The feathers took forever! I want to do the same for ac1 one day.
I have the same feeling about halo. Just like with MGS, it was bungies baby and the gave me a nice conclusion. To continue milking it would ruin it for me. So I agree with your sentiment.
The fact both systems are selling like hot cakes, the quality of games is getting amazing (and I for one would love to see it stay at this level for 1-2 years), they are used to the tech, the world economy is in the toilet, the graphics are pretty satisfying (skyrim, uncharted 3)....tech limits argument be damned, things just seem really good right now both for the gamer and the industry...2012 just seems a little early, idk about 2014 but 2013 at the earliest seems reasonable.
But according to the story arch, it has to finish by the end of 2012. Having a story line that climax in 2012 release in 2013/14 just doesn't make sense. Release ac3, finish this 2012/Desmond story and then take a much needed break for a few years before starting a new story arch.
As long as I get ac3 on current systems so I can finish the story without having to get a new machine, I'll be happy.
I agree about the test of time, game design, and replay. I still have my original copy I bought when it launched in 2001.
As long as you give me ac3 and my conclusion on 360, I'm ok. :) it's the last story I need to finish and I don't want to have to upgrade just to finish it.
It better release on the 360/ps3 as well! I and many others that follow the story would be pissed if we have to upgrade just to finish the story arch. Not to mention there's already a very large install base of people this generation. Release on 360/ps3 please! :)

Why I do love the story and like others am more hooked for the story than gameplay mechanics, they did back themselves in a corner with the 2012 story. Just release ac3, finish the story for us junkies then take a break and do something different, maybe coming back to it with a new story when the next gen starts.
Gah! After seeing the comparison, I cant wait! I still own my original copy, still play it, and still remember when it first came out and a friend introduced me to CE back in 8th grade when I moved. I can't wait to relive it!

Sounds like I'm going to walmart Thursday night at 10pm to pick up gears 3, batman, Forza 4, etc. For $28 each, who can pass that up! And it starting on thursday allows me to actually go after work Thursday and then back to working early Friday morning.
