True, but it's the rumour on the financial agreement which is interesting. Instead of paying a "bonus" for the franchise itself, Microsoft is essentially paying damages to Sony on Square's behalf for breaching an exclusivity contract.

Particularly his reaction to Res 5, but I'm with him on this... I want to hear about games from the guys who make them even when "Bigger, Better and More Badass" is ringing in my ears and giving me a headache!

If you're not interested or don't want to listen, fine, but as he so succinctly puts it:

"But the STFU mentality isn’t designed to foster debate, rather to shut it down... STFU isn’t criticism, it’s attempted intimidation. Why attempt to silence ...

Agreed. I'll be wasting a lot of spare time on this one. How good does this game look! Can't wait. :)

IMO this is a hell of a lot more interesting than a Top 10 list! At least they try to explain why Halo's had a resurgence.

I'm not surprised by the success given it's multiplatform, an established franchise, fills in an empty genre (for the time being), and has marketed the Star Wars angle very effectively... But I do wonder whether they are shipped or retail figures, because there is a world of difference... If only I could read Namco's Japanese report. :(

Wow! You just put cahill to shame. lol

If I listened to you two, not only would I be broke, but I'd be locked up!

Bubbles to pegger, OOG already got some. :p

I think saying Rare's glory days are over is a bit extreme to be honest. Rare like every other developer has had it's ups and downs, if not a hell of a lot more. And I beleive such behaviour to be cyclical.

Remember the NES/GB period where they produced 60 odd games in five years? How many of those were AAA as opposed to shovelware? And then look what came after it... the ground breaking CGI platformer Donkey Kong Country on SNES in 94, followed by the N64's Blast Corps, Goldeney...

This only goes to further illustrate your lack of financial literacy.

First you fail to understand Konami's financial report and financial estimate modelling, and now you think Assets = a company's worth. Like others have illustrated you're so far off the ball that you need to cut the crack and go to school...

Or as I said in the last reply I sent to your spam PMs before I blocked you:

"I'm sorry you're mistaken. I partially make my living off such...

Certainly did mate. Rare have done so many great games it's not funny. I still remember Marble Madness, Battletoads, RC Pro Am, Snake Rattle n Roll, Digger T Rock, and Wizards and Warriors on the NES like it was yesterday! :)

And yes Blast Corps, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong Country, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Jet Force Gemini, Killer Instinct, and Conker were all exceptional titles/franchises on Nintendo consoles, and almost all are personal favourites! lol

"This game is gonna to turn out real bad. I've seen someone play it on my PS3 and it looks HORRIBLE."

I imagine it would! lol

But whilst MS use of the figures may be questionable and a pretty obvious marketing ploy, the figures themselves are newsworthy simply because they are as VG247 states "a Live demo record."

As for:

"Because that was *actual* news, since some people here like to claim that nobody's buying the P...

Did this guy get the memo about the engine being "Silicon Knights Propriety Engine" as opposed to the previous Unreal 3 build last year?

He then claims:

"The game visually makes up for the lawsuit the developers had to painstakingly go through with Epic Games earlier this year over engine support issues, which later got resolved successfully."

I thought it remained unresolved?

Well in that case forget your nose and get your eyes checked... or maybe take off those rose tinted glasses. lol

It's all relative mate. You're entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine, but I can assure you I'm not what you assert, and indeed go back to the Carmack article and instead of colouring a statement as "damage control", watch the interview and then look at the sh!t I give MS for their DVD licensing and compression. ;)

I'm impartial to branding an...

It's alright mate. Clearly none of these people make a living out of such data, as I do, Wall Street does and I suspect yourself. Your understanding of return reserve and the relationship between publishers and distributors are sound. Bubbles for the explanations. :)

It also turns out the title is incorrect and that MGS4 did not ship 3.94m copies, but rather the "Metal Gear" series did as indicated by Konami's own financial tables in the linked document. That would incl...

Well noted and bubbles. I didn't see that, but having looked at the figures you're correct given the 07 "Metal Gear" figures. Title needs to be changed. ;)

6418d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Well you better get your nose checked out! lol

Just because I hold an opinion about financial estimates that happens to be different to yours, does not colour me that which you claim. In fact it has nothing to do with the awesome MGS4 and all to do with finance, so if you want to edit your post and call me a finance fanboy that's fine by me! ;)

At least I went to the effort of explaining my position as opposed to your primal name calling! lol

As cahill points out they're shipped numbers and hence incomparable to VGChartz estimated retail sales.

But yes the VGChartz numbers are low and one would think the real retail figure is above 3m.

As for your statement:

"Over 1 million less than what Konami stated lol, I guess that shows how crap VGChartz is."

All it really shows is your failure to understand simple financial terminology. Shipped vs Retail sales are very different ...

I agree MGS4 has long legs, but NPD associate SimExchange is tracking lifetime sales at 4.64m with a monthly high at 5.21m.

http://www.thesimexchange.c...

Personally I think 8m is beyond reach and 5-6m would be a tremendous success for Konami, and be consistent with all previous Metal Gear sales.

6418d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

You accuse VGChartz of fake numbers and yet proceed to pull such straight out of your behind! lol

You clearly don't understand what financial estimates are, but in layman terms they are estimates based on financial models and algorithms, of which a survey sample of retail sales is a required variable. Eg Sales = A x B x sample x D... etc

The difference between VGChartz and NPD, and the reason VGChartz tends to be less accurate is because it only uses a survey sample ...

Totally agree and MGS4 deserves all the sales it gets, but you do realise they aren't retail sales above don't you?
