People are b!tching about a game being $15 not $10, when really if they'd played the game they'd realise you'd probably pay $30 at retail quite happily.
Best game I've played since Portal. And if it means Jonathon Blow can make another game as good as this, even better. :)
And don't forget the very early third-person cover system! ;)
Reading all the interviews (6 pages!) he drops a number of hints. PD appears to be in the mix, although he claims that they're making what European gamers call hardcore, but which Americans would not... which seems to rule out a standard FPS.
He also talks a lot about sandboxes and user creation being in their secret projects, so a new IP, Conker or Kameo might be in the mix...
But call me crazy, but Rare's focus on sanboxes, user creation, humour, multiplayer, and a...
I think your wishes will be answered. Rumours a while back from the Quartermaster speculated about Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Banjo being developed for XBLA. Given 2 have now been proven true I'd say Perfect Dark is a given. ;)
If the rumours are true, that it's Nintendo that's stonewalling, then expect Banjo (and Perfect Dark) on XBLA to start breaking down that wall. Money talks... ;)
"Well Sony owns part of MGM."
Yes true, but only 20% which means it has no direct control over MGM's licensing and film rights business. In the case of the Bond films Sony acts as distributor, but has no ownership of the licence... therefore it has no seat at the bargaining table when it comes to Goldeneye. :)
Err she's already produced two games and has a long list of producer, director and publisher credits in the film and print industries. Oh and she also happens to have a BS in Microbiology and own and operate her own media company. That seems to make her pretty well qualified as a producer if you ask me.
And that's beyond the obvious marketing and publicity she brings to Saints Row 2. ;)
And yet look at what we're talking about! :/
Bottom line it's worked and got people talking bout Saints Row 2.
If you looked at Tera Patrick's expertise beyond the bedroom/longueroom/bathroom/ki tchen/gym/outdoors/etc, she's actually a pretty highly accomplished producer (film and games) and businesswoman (film and print media) and has assets well beyond her explicit appeal.
I really enjoyed Ninja Gaiden 2, but that was damn funny. Can't wait to see how he reacts to the T&A in Soul Calibur. :)
Thanks for the memories. ;)
Have some bubbles on me!
Actually MGM owns the Bond film rights, whilst Activision owns the Bond game licence. Nintendo owns the rights to the game Goldeneye, whilst Microsoft owns the rights to all of Rare's other titles. So the only one not involved is in fact Sony! ;)
It's a complicated licensing mess, but all the rumours point to Nintendo stonewalling despite MS offering the revamped Goldeneye for the Wii's Virtual Console in addition to XBLA.
Until you get to my particular favourite... "Sorry the princess is in another castle". Awesome. :)
Man we go back and forth. Yesterday Blast Corps, today Time Bandits. Gold! :)
As for Braid. I agree. This could push XBLA to a whole new level. :)
It's completely real time including the menus and inventory. No turn based gameplay at all. ;)
Tales all the way LaChance. ;)
I think CVG places a bit too much hyperbole on it, but I'd agree it's the best game not just on XBLA but PSN as well. It's also an argument for games as art. If you're a gamer who knows their history, you'll love this for its references (particularly Nintendo ones) and its blatant deconstruction of game design. The story, art design, music and brainteasers are pretty exceptional as well.
Only warning is once you beat it and collect all the pieces there's no replay beyond apprecia...
One level is, and another is like Donkey Kong, and another like Mario... and yet it's wholly unique. Pretty much throws game design rules out the window and wacks a whole heap of gaming commentary subtext into a mind bending, visually stunning, and emotional gaming experience.
Highly recommend it. Although make sure your brain's switched on for this one. ;)
I've just played through it. And quite frankly it's amazing. Spend your 1200 points. It's the best game I've played since Portal.
I agree. Tera Patrick is a very clever marketing move, and she brings a surprising amount of business and production smarts to boot, beyond the obvious titillation.
As long as they keep the balance, and don't go too tacky, this should work a treat and has got a lot of people talking about Saints Row 2 that previously weren't paying attention.
"Funny you mentioned all that... because I didn't see ANY opf that in the promo video..."
But you would've if you read the article! ;)
