"The company really started to decline around the time of StarFox Adventures, but by that time a lot of the key staff had already gone on to new things... Such as Haze."
Sorry I couldn't help myself. ;)
Rare are a great developer, that have struggled under the pressure of new and very different owners. I wouldn't fret though. From all indications we'll be seeing at least five titles from Rare in the coming year and a half. And MS seems much clearer on their...
Yeah it's amazing really, MS has a lot of secret projects that are starting to leak, which seems to indicate their in house development is starting to find its stride and rhythm... which quite frankly is about time!
Rare have three confirmed projects which given the quote above, suggests there's at least two if not three in the pipeline.
Lionhead have Fable 2 and the XBLA titles confirmed, but they have kept the Dmitri AI project and another project under wraps (Synd...
I really want a KI3 but it doesn't really fill a strategic need.
A new FPS IP or a much improved Perfect Dark for Holiday 09 on the other hand would make a lot of strategic sense, and fill the MS FPS void, if there is no Halo FPS come Holiday '09.
But I think tintin is right. We're likely to see more family friendly orientated games... although Conker is a very strong and unique IP that could differentiate itself in the market.
Correct Predator, but they also view it as a "gateway drug" by exposing handheld gamers to Microsoft franchises and hoping they will in turn move on to the 360 in the future.
It's also a nice way to smooth relations with Nintendo, so as to get some of Rare's previous titles across to XBLA, such as the recently announced re-release of the original Banjo Kazooie.
EDIT:
@Predator. Read my early comments. The DS and XBLA relationships are clearly p...
Yeah they could turn Kameo into a real Zelda type franchise if they got some serious time and reworking with it. And a Jet Force/Killer Instinct game would be great.
There's so many other franchises they could be working on though. Blast Corps, Battletoads, Conker, Wizard and Warriors, Jetpac, etc...
And I suspect Banjo on XBLA is a test run with Nintendo, before they revisit the possibility of Goldeneye.
Conker is about as edgy as Rare gets, and quite frankly I like it that way. Plenty of blood and gore from everyone else anyhow... ;)
If you want hardcore you should really be asking for a Battletoads remake! :)
and easily the best strategy title on consoles to date.
If you don't have it, buy it... and watch those hours slip away! lol
Hasn't been an issue with the Diablo series and other crawlers, so I doubt it'll be here. Although it would be nice to see them really push Cyberspace, with more complex puzzles and as you suggest some platforming.
The hub world, Cyberspace and the many secrets are sure to mix it up in the first one but it would be nice to see them expand the mix going forward. I think the trilogy will likely expand its online offerings, story depth, augmentations and maybe even venture into PvP...
I wish people would read articles before posting an opinion. ;)
Exactly. We won't know the answer until half yearly reports come December/January. The numbers I used were simply for the purpose of illustration... last time I checked EA sold more than 10 copies per quarter! :)
Yeah GTAIV killed New York, and any current day US city for me this year.
Thank god for old-school Chicago in Resistance 2 and apocalyptic Fallout 3 to keep "a lil' bit of the good ol ultraviolence" in US cities satisfied. :)
Prince of Persia looks amazing.
Did anybody consider he said 7.5 and Edge forgot the decimal? lol
Mate get over your male insecurities and sink some hours into Viva Pinata. It's awesome, in a crack kinda a way...
It's one all mate, don't start countin your chickens... I mean kiwis... just yet! lol
But as far as I'm concerned I made a neutral statement and the disagrees are the ones colouring my statement. In fact I noted the major issue of the DVD further up. ;)
OMG some times I wonder why I bother! lol
How can anybody rationally disagree with the above? There's at least five of you... so please explain. ;)
Bubbles mate, you're the only one in this thread so far that seems to understand simple financial concepts and recognised this has nothing to do with a "console war". Well said and check my example below. :)
Lol at the disagrees who can't express themselves cohesively or provide a counter explanation. I go to the trouble of explaining some financial concepts when a member asks and all you can do is click a button! lol
1) Quarterly reports from EA include all sales made in that 3 month period on the PS3. But EA does not total 360 sales on a 3 month basis but rather a 6month basis.
For example:
In Q3, PS3 sells 10 copies, 360 sells 20 copies
But in EA's reports it will show PS = Q3 = 10, whilst defers Q3 results so the 360 = 0.
But as the year continues we may have:
In Q4, PS3 sells 20 copies, 360 sells 20 copies
So in EA's half ye...
They're shipped figures. So any comparison between such and estimated retail sales such as those by VGChartz and NPD is useless.
