Another Nintendo-paid shill article from dealspwn, no surprise. Nintendo not only didn't "win" 2015 with this weak "direct", this will probably also be the final full year of Wii U releases. The gimmickpad just isn't enough of a reason to buy into the mediocre Wii U hardware, and the usual rehashed games certainly aren't going to change anyone's mind either.

Oh, and bragging about adding non-remastered, ugly, low-res Wii games to the esho...

"But no one wanted to switch to a Wii U just to get them, because they didn't have all the same content as other versions. They were also under-advertised, over-priced, and lacked a lot of crucial patch support that other versions got as fast as their developers could type up the codes for them. "

No one "wanted to switch to a Wii U" because the Wii U was technically unable to offer those games at the same level of ...

@wonderfulmonkeyman:

No, it isn't some kind of silly conspiracy or lazy 3rd party developers. It's very simply because the Wii U is a poorly-designed, feature-lacking, underpowered console, one that can't even match multiplats from consoles that came out SEVEN YEARS before it.

Also, diehard Nintendo gamers simply don't buy 3rd party games on the Wii U, they are really only obsessed with Nintendo's own first party games. Look at 3rd party...

@randomass171:

From Nintendo's own website:

"Q: What do I need to complete the transfer?

A: In order to complete a system transfer, the following items are needed:

Both the source and target Wii U consoles. Each will need to be present, set up, and fully updated, and each will need a working Wii U GamePad paired to the console.
An SD Card with enough room to hold all system and save data from the source Wii ...

The only problem with your excuses, is that the multiplats can't be "done right" on hardware that is hugely inferior to the true current gen consoles, and even inferior in many ways to the last gen consoles that came out seven+ years before it! Stop with the "done right" excuse, and just admit that Nintendo completely dropped the ball on the Wii U console itself, left out or gimped too many features, all to accommodate the gamepad gimmick.

And if yo...

"And yet no one, NO ONE, switched to a Wii U for third party games, because third parties made their own multiplats suck on Wii U by cutting content, delaying them, and overcharging for them. "

No one "switched to a Wii U for third party games" because the Wii U was technically unable to offer those games at the same level of the true current gen consoles, much less the last gen. Wii U's design is so inferior, it c...

Excuses, excuses, excuses. It's diehard Nintendo fans like you that are enabling Nintendo in its mediocre hardware designs and bad gimmicks. You're buying into Nintendo's poor products for one reason, and one reason alone: nostalgia. You're remembering those first days of playing the (admittedly excellent) SNES, and your vision is blinded by that nostalgia.

The reality? Nintendo's hardware designs have one central, core objective: to make the cheapest ...

There are a lot more than "4 reasons" NOT to jump on the Wii U bandwagon in 2015. Based on current trends, the Wii U will fade out in 2016, and a new Nintendo console (probably handheld/console combination) will release in 2017. The future library of the Wii U looks to be very anemic at best, with virtually no 3rd party games and just a handful of 1st/2nd party games.

With the PS4 and XB1 just ramping up with tons of great games in the pipeline, there really is ...

No wonder you only have one bubble.

So, how does a "ten minute phone call" work when your console is broken and out of warranty? That phone call won't fix anything, Nintendo will tell you to ship your broken console back to them for "repair", and charge you a good sum of money to do that (probably over $100, money that could easily be put to better use for a replacement console).

Here is a perfect example of this problem, from Nintendo's own tech forums: 4162d ago 1 agree2 disagreeView comment

Then when their Wii U console breaks, is lost, or stolen, those games that were "gifted" are lost, unless they jump through a bunch of stupid hoops and SEND their console BACK to Nintendo to be "repaired" (never mind that if a console breaks, you're usually better off just buying a new one, and if its lost or stolen, you're just out of luck).

Plus, both Sony and MS allow multiple consoles to play games from one single account's own games, somet...

@Kwietstorm

The real problem is entitled gamers like you, who whine and complain when they don't get enough free stuff from companies that don't owe them anything at all. The discounts that come with my PS+ subscription, by themselves, more than pay for the sub (and most people who actually buy games as well, though I know that excludes cheapskates who don't buy anything), so the "free games" are just gravy.

I own a PS3, PS4, and Vita...

It's clear by now that the gamepad is nothing more than an expensive gimmick, one that sapped huge resources away from the Wii U console itself. Nintendo scaled many features way back, and removed others entirely, just to accommodate the high cost of the gamepad. That left the base console unable to compete, and unable to handle current gen games from 3rd party devs.

Having a map or inventory on the gamepad is a silly option, when on a traditional console, you just pres...

Everything you wrote are just fanboy excuses for a genuinely poorly-designed console. People like you are the reason that Nintendo still thinks they can get away with cheaped-out hardware with gimmicks thrown in, when in reality that technique no longer works. Instead of just accepting their crap hardware, you should be demanding that they do a better job on design, and get rid of the silly gimmicks. Wake up!

4165d ago 1 agree9 disagreeView comment

Like many other diehard Nintendo fans, you blame 3rd party devs for not "optimizing" their games for the Wii U, but you ignore the elephant in the room: the Wii U is genuinely too weak to handle multiplats, primarily because of its weak CPU (far weaker than both the 360 and PS3 CPUs). Stop making excuses for Nintendo's poor hardware, wake up and demand that they produce better products next time! You people are enablers that allow Nintendo to get away with these kinds of cheap...

This same website has been desperately peddling the Wii U for quite a while now. I wonder if Nintendo is actually paying them for the glowing Wii U marketing? Sure seems like it.

As for why I don't have a Wii U yet, its very simple. The hardware is cheap, underpowered, and lacking in even the most basic features, and the game library is very unappealing. Unless you're into the usual rehashed Nintendo games, there just isn't much worth bothering with on this co...

@BenqMagician - I agree with most of your comments, but you point out yourself that the Wii U has a worse CPU than the 360, which came out 8 years before it. That makes it hard to classify as a "good console" as you say. It is also missing many, many features that are commonly expected in modern day consoles (like an internal HDD, ethernet port, analog triggers, USB 3.0, etc.); these features were clearly left out to accommodate the high cost of the gimmicky gamepad.

Nothing to "misunderstand". The Wii U is a feature-lacking, poorly-designed, gimmicky last-gen console, with an awkward, distracting Fisher Price wannabe tablet gimmick dragging it down. Nintendo bet once again that a gimmick tied to cheap hardware would reel people in, but this time it failed. The anemic library of games, abandonment by 3rd parties, and lack of entire genres of games have led to its poor sales and rejection by all but the most diehard Nintendo fans.
