This leaves Nintendo with a very meager selection of games for 2015, really not enough to begin to sustain the Wii U. Shame that Nintendo gimped the console so badly, it's simply unable to compete this generation.

Let's hope that the NX isn't based on a gimmick like most Nintendo products for the last decade or so. If it is, they're through with gaming hardware. Which might actually be a good thing, they really don't know how to design good hardware anym...

The Wii U has failed.

It's time for Nintendo to cut their losses, and move on to new hardware.

Let's hope that their next system isn't based on an annoying gimmick, and instead actually offers solid gaming specs.

They should have learned by now, gimmicks just aren't enough to move hardware, and they aren't enough to attract people to your platform. The Wii and Wii U have both proved this in a huge way.

Garbage article is garbage. Nothing wrong with remasters, it's great to play games with enhanced graphics. What a totally lame "opinion piece", thumbs down for that poor website.

No, I don't think so. I finished it on the Vita, and have been playing a new game on the PS4.

Wii U is dying in Japan, I hope Nintendo's next console is coming out soon. They're gonna need it.

Great news about PS4 and Vita sales too, both are fantastic systems.

Really great little game, I have it on Vita and PS4 and found it to be very enjoyable. I hope they make a sequel, maybe include randomized levels instead of fixed ones. Great for XB1 owners that this is coming to their platform!

This game really looks awful . . . as if Nintendo wanted to release an FPS, but make it as child-safe as possible. And the art style and characters are really ugly . . . but I guess the Wii U can only handle that cartoony-style stuff, so it makes sense that they went in that direction.

Part of what you say is true. The XB1 was indeed based on the crappy Kinect gimmick. I never bought into that gimmick on the 360, and totally skipped the XB1 because of it (and for several other reasons).

The difference between those other "gimmicks" and Nintendo's poorly-conceived gimmicks, is that in the case of Nintendo's hardware, you simply have no choice at all. They force the gimmicks down your throat.

Don't like the wiimote+nu...

No one except the most diehard Nintendo fanboys wants any more gimmicky, feature-lacking hardware from Nintendo. Enough with the bad gimmicks, it's time for Nintendo to go software only.

All of your previous comments are very well thought out and right on point. And I agree that Nintendo is trying to differentiate themselves with each successive hardware release, but the problem is that in so doing, they are forcing silly gimmicks on gamers, at the direct expense of the hardware they produce. The expensive gamepad is clearly the direct reason that the Wii U base console is so feature-poor and low-spec, too many resources went into the gamepad, with very little left for the ...

Everything you wrote is fanboy gibberish. But to use your own approach:

Answer me this question: Does anyone want underpowered, feature-lacking, gimmicky hardware that is sold under the false label of "innovative", just to play yet another round of rehashed, cartoony games?

The answer for the Wii U is quite obviously, no.

The reason that the Wii U isn't more popular is really quite simple: it's a poorly designed console, lacking in even the most basic features, and based entirely around a gimmick.

Nintendo thought they could simply repeat the formula that worked for the Wii, but that approach failed. Many people who bought the awful Wii felt burned, so the last thing they wanted was another console like that one.

Nintendo, in their usual arrogant way, decided to cobb...

Wii U is fading away, even in Japan where they usually love gimmicks. Even the PS3 is outselling it.

Shame Nintendo didn't do a better job on the design, they have only themselves to blame for its failure.

Let's hope that Nintendo's next console (if there is one) is better designed, they really can't afford another disaster like the Wii U.

Nah, the Wii U couldn't handle the 3rd party games at the same level as the XB1 or PS4 (or even the 360/PS3), which is why 3rd party devs abandoned the system (besides the poor sales of the Wii U itself, of course).

RIP Wii U, hopefully it will be the end of the gimmick train, and Nintendo will get back to producing solid hardware.

Really poorly written article that rambles with no logic and doesn't draw any rational conclusions. What's up with the silly "us gamers" phrase? Did this author even learn English?

Look at the murky, pointless conclusion: "On the other hand, as far as gamers are concerned. The sooner we realize the potential of Nintendo's current home console, the better off we will be, otherwise please do not blame the direction in which this industry is going.&qu...

The "parity clause" really needs to be abolished. Look at this quote from Phil Spencer, mentioned in the article: "last October, Xbox boss Phil Spencer emphasised that the clause was still present to ensure that Xbox One owners felt "first class".

That really sounds kind of arrogant, doesn't it? I'm not an XBox hater, in fact I still own multiple original XBoxes and 360s, and really love a lot of games that came out on both of those systems...

Wow, first Rainbow Curse bombed, now this. Nintendo really needs to drop the silly gimmicks, and go back to just producing solid games. That old magic they used to have, just isn't there anymore. How the mighty have fallen! :(

Kirby bombed because it's a terrible game. Forcing people to play the entire game on the gamepad, using only touch controls, and not even being able to enjoy it on the TV? Absolutely awful.

3994d ago 2 agree2 disagreeView comment

Why, you ask? Well maybe if the prices were lowered by greedy Nintendo, more people might actually buy their games? It's Nintendo's own greed that contributes to the poor sales of its own games, their unwillingness to lower prices because they're trying to squeeze every single penny they can from their loyal fans.

Bayonetta 2 in particular, sold very poorly in terms of global numbers; its a niche title at best, and Nintendo might garner some more sales if they...
