Why should they bother? Finding devs and creating new IPs takes time. Sony will never be able and probably not even try and bother with outspending MS on the marketing front. 2 million euros? MS spent double that on Halo 3 marketing and are spending even more than that for Reach.
Edit: via joystiq, that figure in American dollars is 6.5 million for Halo 3 marketing, so MS might hit $10 million for Reach.

I can't believe that a brand new system is more desired than optional add-on accessories to consoles that came out four and five years ago! I bet this new handheld system has better graphics than that other portable system that came out six years ago!

Gotta admit, its been a bit puzzling to me too. The 17th/9th, a Fri and Sat respectively, seemed like odd days to launch a new product. Maybe I'm just thinking of the fact that video games typically launch on Tuesdays, I don't know, but a weekend launch just seems weird.

Hey take this as a good sign. Two years ago it would've been the 360 mentioned, now its the PS3. Sony wasn't even a blip on the radar in the eyes of non-gamers then, but clearly they are relevant in people's minds once again. There's no such thing as bad press. haha.
I think the durability of the 8/16 bit generation systems is a little overrated. I treat my consoles with nothing but TLC, but my Genesis ceased to be usable about five years ago. My friend Phil's SNES works....but if a stiff wind makes contact with it, its freezes up. People with N64s? Blow into the cartridge city, combined with screwing with the system itself.

I was %50 convinced to buy Move, then I tried Kinect at Macys. I spent five minutes waiting for the camera to recognize me (including a 360 reset), and about a minute and a half of bowling. I then pre-ordered the Move. Controller-less gaming...DOESN'T WORK.
I thought the Playstation Eye came out like two years ago. Oh wait, nevermind, it's not the Eye, its the Kinect.
