I once paid $4000 for a 50" flat screen plasma TV. You can find one now for $500. Does that mean plasma TVs died? Or did more people buy them, enjoy them, and tell their friends?

If you game in 1440p/4k they usually start around that price. Feel free to internet if you dont believe me.

Who pays $160 for a controller? or $200 for a mechanical keyboard? Yet they are still on the market and very popular. Affordability will always be relative.

My PC plays 3d Blurays, 3d netflix, I dont know about anime....

Off topic: Holy Mother wait till you see something in 3d with a VR HMD. It may bring 3d back into popularity. With 2 lenses showing you 2 separate images there is NO crosstalk whatsoever. Crystal Clear 3d that active or passive cant match.

The Preorders are getting destroyed. They have already gone through 3 batches of preorders. I dont think the adoption problem is as big as people think. If you have invested enough into a PC to perform VR, why stop now? If you have a rig that can run VR you would be an Enthusiast, which probably means you arent shy about spending a few bucks on a premium experience. These are the target audience.

VR will be mainstream in a few generations, of that I have no doubt. But...

@Yomfweeee

Good dialogue going here. You are right, VorpX isnt perfect. But you know what? It could be. VorpX is still just another mod right now. But imagine if Steam put it on Gameworks. The community can put a nice polish on it right quick.
Or if Oculus or Valve bought VorpX outright and decided to run with it or a similar concept.
But thats all future speculation.

Right now, today, there are VR experiences like no other. And that is...

No it doesn't. VorpX is a workaround that supports VR for around 100 games. Games like skyrim and Gta V have been tuned quite nicely with Vorpx.
Plus there are other apps like 3d movie cinemas and Virtual Desktop where you can have multiple virtual screens as large as you want, that works just the same as your desktop. I've played Diablo 3 on a 300" curved screen while floating in space. Not too many experiences can offer that right now.

If you are playing 1080p you can get a cheap monitor, yeah. But a decent 1440p/4k one starts at $650USD.

You can probably find cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Sigh,

Considering most monitors worth a damn usually start in that price range, I dont think its too steep. Its another viewing peripheral that just happens to play VR games and Movies and it requires a beastly PC. Hardly different than playing in 1440p or 4K in terms of price or accessibility. less than 5% of gamers play in 4k. Does that mean that 4K is DOA and not being developed?

Original Kingston HyperX 2 is around $100 so I imagine this would be in the same ballpark.

Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle, and CDKeys pretty much priced me out of Pirating. The time it takes to get the cracks running properly just isnt worth it to me anymore.
Ill splurg and pay the whole $15 for the GOTY edition.

Gear VR is run on a phone.

Vive/Rift need a GTX 970 to get off the ground.

There will be a massive difference in quality. Gear VR couldnt hold a candle to the DK2 so I imagine a dedicated PC would tear it up the new HMDs.

A decent monitor will run you about the same price. You simply have to ask yourself what you would use more often. Virtual Desktop gives you any sized screen you want in VR with a lower resolution, or a sweet IPS 1440p monitor you can drool over.

I know people that wouldnt bat an eye over paying $1200CDN for a monitor.

Exactly. Here I was worried because initially I thought "24 hours to choose between the Vive or the Rift."
The real sticking point is still price. Something I wish they would reveal before preorders go live.

Considering I pay less than $10 for most games, Im not too worried about the resale value. I have such a backlog of games, I'm rarely tempted to buy anything new.

3718d ago 6 agree2 disagreeView comment

Thats really incredible. Especially considering how cheap the games are. Its not like they made $80 a game. I would imagine the average game is around $5-$10 during sales, and Valve still gets a small piece of it. And they put on sales pretty much every quarter.

GG Valve.

Less money for games means more of your profits stay in your pockets.

Plus, there are paid mods in games like CS:GO and TF which I would imagine can be quite lucrative.

They are a polished piece of kit now. That extra space is perplexing. Commentator had it right, cant be a speaker. A touch pad maybe?
I dont know if its the angle or what, but those triggers look like they are on the inside of the handle, rather than the front. That looks awkward to utilize.

Spoiled and whiny gamers is why I Dont play multiplayer. I mean, my god. Have you heard what is said during online matches? Its either burps, children, or racist dicks. I can do without those, thanks.

Cmon guy, i won't go into all the amazing things Rey can suddenly do but that fight was garbage. You can say staff skills equal sword skills and whatever but the fact is she did all that Force grab and push stuff to begin and end the fight was laughable considering SHE HADNT EVEN HEARD OF THE FORCE UNTIL THAT MORNING. Yet she can force grab stuff right out of his hand.

Not even The Chosen One Anakin had close to that amount of power even after y...
