I kinda wonder what will be the extent of the selection mods that will be distributed through XBL. Could just be a couple of the major mods that don't violate any copyright regulations. I guess it would be a no-go and a big no-no to Microsoft/Epic to being able to play as Solid Snake or MC or any other unnofficial game character in the 360 version, or whatever mods that contain copyrighted stuff.

You won't be able to play as MC, Samus, or Solid Snake in the 360 version, unfortunately (you know, for copyright and legal reasons...). This isn't like the open modding system which is in the PS3; this is basically just DLC in the form of a couple new game types and maps, which they may or may not charge you for. That's what they mean by bringing you the "top mods" for UT3. They mean that Epic has to officially acquire them, process them, and distribute it through XBL themselves.

You mean you got a few mods (probably just a couple new game modes and maps) that they select for you.

Are you kidding? The head looked absolutely AWFUL on that old character model. Anything's an improvement over that ugly, cheesy mug with the long silver hair. Hope he's gotten a couple revisions by the artists, preferably different artists with better taste.

These guys might be just feeding us lines and hype. 1080p, 60 fps, with THOSE kinds of graphics? I have a hard time absorbing that, especially since they're a smaller, unknown developer. If they actually achieve anywhere near what they're claiming, then they would be outdoing everyone; Naughty Dog, Crytek, Infinity Ward, Insomniac... EVERYONE. Excuse me if I take a wait a see approach, and take their words with a grain of salt for the moment.

He might be just as easily interpreted as saying that because of the optimization, they were able to achieve the same, or close to, the same graphical performance as the PS3 version, whereas it wouldn't have performed as well otherwise. His words are too vague to interpret one way or the other.

Ratchet is a great looking 60hz game, that I agree with you. But you have to understand that 1080p is TWICE the pixel resolution of 720p. That's a LOT of extra pixels to render, and a big performance drainer. I don't really see the PS3 achieving more or less two times the rendering performance of Ratchet, at least not in the near future.

But is the 1080p upscaled, or is it true native 1080p? It might just be 720p or 960x1080 resolution upscaled to 1080p output, which is not the same thing.

People at Beyond3D need to start counting the pixels of this game to find out if it's truly running in full 1080p (which I kind of doubt, because there are only a handful of games that run in that resolution on the PS3).

It might mean that the game is only 720p UPSCALED to 1080p, not true 1080p native.

I don't see 1080p@60hz happening; not even next-gen will it be the "sweet spot." You're gonna have to sacrifice a LOT of graphical quality to get a game to run at either 1080p or 60fps ALONE, let alone both together.

To put it into perspective, a game like Uncharted only runs at 720p@30hz, and that game is pushing the PS3 pretty hard. People are being too optimistic if they expect a ton of games to run at 60 fps in the future.

960x1080 isn't really that great of a resolution. It's about the same number of pixels as 720p (1280x720), just a little more. Certainly, it's not as good as full 1080p.

GT5:P is about halfway between 720p and 1080p with its 1280x1080p resolution.

I would love to see MGS4 and MGO run in native 1920x1080p, or even 1280x1080p, but I highly doubt that's the case.

I remember watching the first ever debut trailer back in TGS 2006. It looked SO amazing, it was just incredible. The game looked like it was going to blow everything else away on both a technical and design aspect. I can see what Kojima means when he says he had an amazing vision for what the game was gonna look like originally, when you look at the early trailers and tech demos. It seems like, going off the latest trailers, that the game has been substantially downgraded from those first tra...

This game just sounds more utterly awesome the more I read about it. One kick ass gameplay concept I read about in the EGM preview was that the player character carries a radio, with which you can use to listen to some classic 50's tunes and a radio DJ. But what's unique about this radio is that it can also pick up stray transmissions, such as emergency distress beacons that are still transmitting distress signals, despite the fact that the people calling for help may or may not be dead (or ...

Judging by the visuals alone, should've tipped you off that this isn't a PS3-lead title. Nearly EVERY multiplatform game nowadays is XB360 lead-developed now, for whatever reason. That's just the way it is in today's developmental climate. What exactly did you expect?

I agree, I don't see any reason why this fan test would damage the system. Certainly, the author of this news report got it wrong when he said that it causes the system to overheat. The source link message doesn't give any good reasons as to how or why the fan test damages the system either.

Everyone's taking this news report as fact, without even reading the words closer, or looking at the source link.

I don't get it, why does everyone say that this control scheme is good for the XB360 controller, but bad for the Dualshock 3? The two controllers are practically mirror images of each other in terms of button layout!

Personally, I feel the R2 and L2 triggers are definitely the best for accelerating/breaking and shooting. They're called "triggers" for a reason!

6490d ago 1 agree3 disagreeView comment

The Dualshock analog sticks actually feel more precise than the 360s. They're a little looser and smoother, thus easier to control shooters with. This is coming from a guy who has played tons of Xbox and 360 shooters in the past, and prefers using triggers (R2) as the shoot button.
