What you fail to realise it that RPGS are in decline, citing the games you did shows this to be true because Fallout 3 is not as good as it's predecessors, Oblivion is not as good as it's predecessors, Mass Effect is not as good as KOTOR of course Fable 2 bucks the trend.
I think Fallout was genuinely a one in a million game that hasn't been equalled since. Take away all notion of graphics and fallout can compete with any game of any generation.

I think you nailed it. it's not AAA, it's not M$ published and it's made by Tecmo who have given the PS3 both previously exclusive Ninja Gaidens.
Seriously the Unreal Engine is very good, stop hating.
Some of the best games today use it. All those comments about FPS with Natal need to think realistically. Gears with Natal would be pap, UT3 would be pap, Killzone 2 would be pap.
But they're nerfed versions of DQ that haven't had money and time lavished on them like a AAA release. The fact that the new release has sold more than triple their respective amounts adds to my point.
DQIX is hardly a big budget game yet look at the sales. Imagine what FFXIII will do.
