EA is one of the biggest gaming companies along with activision. If Sony or Nintendo lost support from these two giants, it would be game over for Vita and 3DS. Too many gamers talk smack about EA & Activision, but if either released a console, you could wave bye-bye to Nintendo and Sony's game consoles. EA have an investment in these handhelds & Sony & Nintendo will bend over backwards to please them. Platform holders no longer have control. It is the third parties that are i...
Sorry jujubee but i have to disagree. The Vita will get a price cut within 6 months. In these tough economic times, people just don't have the kind of money for Vita or 3DS (hence it's price cut).
Tablets and smartphones are dominating handheld gaming. People are more reluctent to hand over £30 for a game on a handheld machine when they can get games for as little as 79p on itunes/android.
The average consumers don't care about the tech. The ...
What you must remember though is those looking for fully fledged games like Uncharted on Vita and Resident Evil on 3DS, are a minority to these companies now. They get a better profit margin for quick short games on Android & Itunes then they do on 3DS & Vita.
Vita and 3DS will probably be the last handhelds as the market has changed now. Look how well Move, Kinect and the Wii have sold. We were once the people these companies focus on. Now we are the minority. Gamin...
I think they mean Sony & Panasonic are rival companies to each other. The whole article is a mess. It's not clear and is full of lies. We shouldn't really expect anything else from a company owned by Rupert Murdoch!
@piratethom
What's Vita's appeal then? Because by your logic its a psp thats just a bit more powerful!
There is so much more to the 3DS then it's 3D screen. Those who are stating that its screen is it's only/main selling point know nothing about the console and haven't had any proper gaming time with it.
Also do explain to me why i can play my 3DS without any headaches or eyepain with the depth slider on full? Why can my ...
Sony released the PS3 in the uk in march 2007. By Sept it had £100 cut from it's price. Look how that turned out!
Also how are Nintendo failing? They made bags full of money from Wii, DS etc making a profit on day 1 on every console sold. They're still gonna be making money from the 3DS, even more so once Super Mario 3D & Mario Kart 3D release.
January 2012 is going to be hilarious once these Sony Fanboys crying doom on 3DS see it outsell Vi...
I hate these "hardcore" & "casual" tags with a passion. It's the supposed "hardcore gamers" that make a game casual. Take COD for example. When MW1 released, it was hailed as the best shooter ever. Then, the sales shot through the roof and now it's a casual arcade shooter.
It really comes across that "hardcore" gamers are unsociable, spoilt loners who only want to be part of a niche group and don't want others to enjoy thei...
If Nintendo couldn't get high sales with the 3DS at it's launch price then what hope has Sony got with the Vita? Don't start preaching to me it's tech being better either as that did nothing for the PS3 and still hasn't pushed it to first place in overall sales.
The price is what put consumers off the 3DS. Hence the price cut. Sony will not be rubbing their hands in excitement right now as they are more worried about what is going to happen with Vita. Vita...
The thing that makes me laugh is that if the 3DS is doomed then the Vita is royally doomed. When i've asked current DS owners why they haven't upgraded yet they state the price as the reason.
Nintendo has noticed this and is cutting the price to get those same consumers on board. Sony will follow suit by cutting the Vita price down 6 months after release because after those first sales from Loyal Sony Fans, sales will begin to dry up.
Fact is, smart...
@ peaceful_jelly
Sony's arrogance was at an all time high before the PS3 released. They directly insulted many with it's high price tag and then had the balls to say people would get a 2nd job to own their console.
EYE hit the nail on the head. They have all been arrogant. The company who is most arrogant though is Microsoft. They never once apologised for RROD. Still to this day they claim only a minority were affected by it.
Sony on...
Hmm....it seems that my time machine has taken me back to 2006. I best tweak it some more.
@seinfan
Sorry but you're wrong here. The WiiU controller isn't gimmicky in the slightest.
Wake up and look at the state of the gaming industry. It's no longer about Graphics and built in features like Dvd/Blu-ray movie playback. It's about new ways of playing games. Nintendo realised this and championed it with the Wii. Sony tried with the eyetoy on PS2 but it was a little too early for it's time.
Sony and Microsoft hav...
"EVERY SINGLE USED GAME WAS ONCE BOUGHT AS A NEW GAME TOO.
A game needs to sell a new copy before it is sold as used. Its not like a dev never recieved money for that used game you bought. the original owner paid them for it. "
Right but thats not the reason why Sony, EA etc are doing this. The reason is that it is a lost sale.
Say that game was purchased new and then traded in 10 times. The Devs only receive the money once, however...
Loads of titles already use these passes. It hasn't affected trade in prices at all. The only people that will be hurt by this are those who are purchasing pre-owned titles.
Why should Sony, EA etc. be concerned with there opinions? They won't see a single penny from them without these passes so to be honest i think it's not that bad.
I buy all my games new. Some on release, however, most being when they are discounted in price a few weeks later...
Short answer....No!
Long Answer....Hell No!!!
If this sells more than 100 units then i will quit gaming! What a complete waste of time and resources. THQ say they have financial issues, don't they think by releasing crap like this could be the reason why?
Just a word of warning, this article is wrong. None of the PS1 versions will work on a US or EU PS3. Only PS3 Games are region free!
Yes they can! Insomniac are being blamed for Sony's decision and that isn't right! Resistance is owned by Sony! It's Sony's choice to include this pass. Same as it'll be EA's choice on overstrike! It's the publisher's choice not the Devs.
Do you realise how much money Sony and Nintendo would lose in licensing fees from EA and Activision? For Sony, this is where they make their money. If they were to lose the money from Activision/EA's yearly franchises it would cripple them. Sony sell hardware at a loss and recoup these losses through Software licensing fees and sales. Nintendo could put up more of a fight but Mario and the gang will only get them so far.
Activision & EA could easily release their own...
