Who says gamepass is making money, revenue is not profit.
They are subsidizing it trying to get people onto xbox before the next gen. There is no way selling games for pennies is enough to pay all the third parties and pay for development of new games.

And again, at pennies per game, Microsoft is subsidizing gamepass before the next gen, I guarantee gamepass is costing them more than it's bringing in.

Well clearly you don't understand the history of the event.
Atari didn't cause anything, it just happened when they were the most popular console. The problem was a flood of cheaply made consoles (not from Atari) and really poor game quality along with zero gaming media so consumers couldn't tell what was good and what was worth buying.
