I see that some people may have once again jumped the gun. Not surprising.
They did the same touting HDR, and payed for a whole new console to get it. Yet now every PS4 has one at no charge. I would highly suggest that everyone wait it out instead of bringing up Scorpio every article.
It's as annoying as DX12, Cloud and the extra power that was released from Kinect talk.

You don't remember Milo do you? You should have seen the fanboys on that one saying Kinect was the future. How about way back when they first announced Halo2 (I remember that one). Looked nothing like the finished product..but was amazing night nonetheless story wise. Nothing has changed.

My Best Buy has a total of 10 UHD movies available. The next closest one barely breaks 20, and they're all movies that were NOT shot with UHD cameras.
Now with Netflix, which I stream directly from my 4K TV, stranger things and more are all there. More content there then there probably will be anywhere else over the next year.

The first three were released 2+ years ago, QB was average to enjoyable at best, Scalebound was delayed again, CupHead is this year so you're right (my personal favorite which I will be getting), Recore was downsized to a smaller AA games as stated by MS.
So no, I would say that MS are not "actively" taking chances.
Within the same ecosystem is the name of he game here. Not another generation, simply a hardware and spec bump. Whether you buy this or the slim, you'll still be supported throughout this gen.

I could care less about NPD since we know who will be on top. I can't wait to hear Xbox fanboys say "PS4 Pro sales can't compare to Scorpio's...but we'll still compare specs". It's just been promises all gen long, with some actually coming true but falling flatter than a pancake. All I know is...one is coming out in two months and the other is still only on paper.

Is that not a valid point? It still sticks now but features vary enough between the two. If they both had almost all the same features, then I would definitely 100% say that it's pointless to buy a PS4 Slim.

Hmm, yeah I don't think so. Maybe more games shooting aliens, but that's about it. Those honestly don't appeal to me at the scale that story driven games and small indie games do.

My take:
Hardware and software have become the name of the game this gen. Hardware is not being built around the software, rather than the other way around last gen.
I think that's the simplest way to put it.

Yet the differences between the two are enough. Especially when one is $100 less. Take your fanboy goggles off for once and have some sense.
For now, one exists and the other doesn't for another year. No need for these articles since there's nothing to compare.
Like I've said before, you can have the most powerful console ever made. But if you don't have a diverse and abundant amount of quality games, there's little to bring people over. They need more than their reign on 3 franchises (Halo, Gears, Forza) to help them actually even consider having an edge.

What will potentially happen is that, if possible, they could in theory have a firmware update once costs of production go down enough. No one would know the difference except them when it comes to what the $400 is covering.
I'm still amazed that they got HDR out of every original PS4. Something that you won't need to buy a new console for. I could see them doing a UHD Bluray around this time next year.
