I upgraded my CPU from an Intel Q6600 Quad Core (2008) to an i7 2500K (2011). That's a three year difference.
I upgraded from HD4870 in 2008 to a Geforce GTX570 just last year during a year end sale. Again, a three difference.
When did I ever upgraded every 6 months? I do buy some RAM every now and then but its more like over indulgence since most games have yet to fully support beyond 2-4 gb of RAM. Not to mention that RAMs are the cheapest upgrade any ...
Have you seen Max Payne HDD space requirement for the PC?
35 gigabytes!
I had a not-very-pleasant time downloading 11GB of Portal 2 (around 2 days) and the 15GB of The Witcher 2 patch (its supposed to last 2 days too but it failed an hour after it started) so no I'm not with the total online, disc-free future. Games will only get bigger especially with next gen so it there's still great need for retail games and physical media.
For pat...
Why do I have the feeling this is nothing more than an ego boost for Crytek. They promised that Crysis 2 will look awesome and optimized for all platform. They partly succeeded although the PC version wasn't that up to it.
Then came along CDP with The Witcher 2 and their own grand promise of nearly indiscernible similarities between the PC and X Box 360 versions. They actually succeeded. They even have a DX9 effects that requires high end card to play. For once a game de...
I'm not a console gamer but I feel ashamed after read that comment. Fairies and 50 drivers...LOL. I'm willing to waste one of my bubbles to say this.
PC gamers are a wasteful lot.
Well, PC gamers are kind people.
We waste our money on super-expensive but under-utilize hardware so that console gamers can buy their consoles cheaper thanks to the graphic chips that we help to AMD/Nvidia to develop every year. We helped to build the foundations for DX9 and Open GL for current consoles and currently busy (with our money and endless benchmarking) making sure that the DX11 transition for next gen console will be a smoother affair.
It's ...
Good point - in an ideal world that is. The problem is that the PC already had been battered by the "PC is Dead" era when the X Box 360 and PS3 were released. It took years for it to prove itself as a still relevant gaming platform. Then iphones and ipads pulled the rug out of the PC's feet by cutting into PC hardware annual sales.
With a lot of original PC developers (lead by Epic and Id) already left the platform to rot for consoles, having another batch of PC...
"primary sin is a general sense of reluctance to accept anything"
It took years for Apple to actually adopt Intel cpus into its product while the PCs have been helping Intel and AMD grow long before that. Even then there were Apple die hards who kept telling its the end of the world since Intel hardware is the reason for all those viruses, malware worms.
So who's actually more open to change here?
I'm with the "good graphic + gameplay" camp when it comes to gaming. I don't think my purchase of an expensive graphic card would be justified if the only games I play are browser games or cell shaded games. The same goes for purchasers of the next gen consoles. Why buy a brand new system if you're saying that graphic is not that important?
I like good graphic but it doesn't mean I don't appreciate gameplay. I have pretty decent desktop PC that ...
Whenever I misplaced my cellphone in the house, I would ask my sister to give a missed call. Then it would made a sound and flashes so I can find it easier...
Wait...a ridiculous gaming norm happened in real life! An actual glowing item when you search for it!
As for cars in games, they really are ridiculously sensitive things. I've always cringed watching how easily parked cars explode in BF3's first gameplay trailer and even more so once released. ...
In Knights of the Old Republic, we are the ultimate bad guy, albeit with a Jedi-sanctioned amnesia.
True. I've always wondered why do I have to verify the game content on Steam first to be able to play it offline. I feels like I have to ask permission first from Valve to play offline. With Origin all I have to do is instal the game, let it auto patch if available and play.
Same with updates. I've always go offline with Steam to avoid updates. I'm fine with updates but when you have a lot of games in the library auto updating themselves at once you do want to pla...
I don' play console primarily because I don't like how restrictive/slow camera movement is when using the gamepad. BUT I do appreciate that the gamepad, like the mouse and keyboard, is a separate controller from the main gaming system. If its broken, you can buy another one. No worries that it'll make your console or in my case PC unusable should the unthinkable happens.
In contrast a mobile device's game controller- the touch screen-is an important part of the...
Or Gears of War with its Jacinto Plateau, the last human bastion on Sera.
@ Skizelli
Thanks. Forgot it was on the PC too. I avoided Windows Vista so I missed out on Halo 2. Since then, partly thanks to M'soft's lack of "effort" to support the PC, I dismissed Halo 2 for being a PC game at all. It was so forgettable...
Even so, the PC still didn't get the 3 and the upcoming 4. Unless there's a hidden reason for Microsoft integrating GFWL and X Box LIVE together while pushing for Dead Souls to use GFWL with W...
@Keysersosay
True.
The PC gamers got exclusive extra content with Halo CE. Then, they didn't get Halo 2, 3 and 4.
The PC gamers also got to fight the Brumak in their version of Gears of War. Then, they didn't get GoW 2 and 3.
The is a reason why some content are called exclusives. It help to get more sales for a part targeted gamer. There's still a healthy number of PC gamer out there and having exclusive content...
Its pretty good and quite overwhelming since its rely heavily on terrain and scout vehicles. You never know what enemy vehicle will turn up from behind that patch of trees or innocent looking hill. Rushing a squad heavy tanks is a risky move since hidden RPG unit will chew them up (which bring back nightmares of driving a tank in BF3). Actually, anti-tank missile equipped BMP is the real terror here since they can attack farther than the standard tank guns. Seeing their missiles streak across...
Let's not forget the Total War series and the recent Wargame European Escalation.
Give them a break. After adapting their game for a console while at the same time making tons of updates for the PC version, they deserve it.
Maybe they'll make The Witcher set in an alternate world. Some of the huge monsters like the Kayran were dumped into Geralt's world when their world collided with another, probably an even more dangerous world. Would be interesting to see them explore that aspect of the lore. With guns.
PC snobs? Where did that come from?
What a stupid opening. Most of the PC fans weren't even surprised when the X Box 360 version was first announced. We all know CDP was looking for ways to port the first game to consoles but couldn't. So they made The Witcher 2 engine specifically for cross platforming. Yeah, the 'snobs' are aware of that possibility long before the announcement and from what I've read the PC gamers are supportive of the move.
They did try to challenge AMD and Nvidia with a multi-core graphic card of their own several years back.A project-I forgot the name-that involves a lot of low-voltage processing unit clumped together in single die. An example was putting hundreds of Pentium 3 processing cores into a single chip. There were a number of real time CGI and physics demos to show off Intel's plan and its main selling point is the possibility of an actual Ray-tracing capable card.
In the end the...
