I'm with you, I've seen weird stuff happen, but mostly its been completely fine. There are annoyances (like when your companion follows you in to a room and stands in the door way AND WON'T LET YOU OUT) but that's expected. I'm about 40 hours in and so far everything's cool, touch wood.
I feel really lucky I didn't opt for the PS3 version cos I very nearly did, sucks for everyone who has had major problems, no matter the platform. But these thin...
22000?!?! That is insanely over-powered, what a game-breaking piece of kit. Would be kinda fun to be able to one-shot some of the more irritating foes, but it would suck all the fun out of the game, and the temptation would always be there even if you fell back on less powerful weapons/spells. At the moment my most powerful weapon does about 40 dmg, but I rely mostly on destruction magic anyway so am not bothered about improving my weapons much.
Skyrim could follow the Dark Souls model, but anything further than that would mean you'd lose the lone warrior feeling you get. I love the loneliness of wandering the wastes alone. However, it would be kinda cool if the game could bring players together for things like dragon fights, boss fights etc.
Imagine coming over the crest of a hill and seeing a band of warriors taking on a few dragons, maybe with some giants wading in!
As for losing your way...
Great list. I'm getting a lot of mileage out of just taunting the dragons to fight everything.
I swear, you don't need to ever buy a game again...
Now THAT is awesome! The guy is clearly a massive guitar geek, but holy hell he can play. Lacking a bit of passion though, he needs to be doing it in a darkened room with red uplighters, sweaty hair flying all over the place. Or maybe he should be wearing an Iron Helm of Destruction.
Who's singing??
Good article. I'm getting married in April and part of me wishes it could be like this, rather than the drawn-out, daffodil-laden affair my better half is planning... Especially if she manages to earn me £5k every few days!!
BTW - where do you find this magical Necklace of Single & Seeking? I reckon there are probably a few N4G members who could use one...
I actually think I like the look of the texture-less version more than the proper game! Looks so clean and awesome.
So wish the zoomed out 3rd person view was available on console, would make wondering around the wastes a lot more fun. I wouldn't get snuck up on by so many sabre cats. Damn cats!
Ace, I hadn't realised there was a novel. I have just ordered it from Amazon. However, now I can't help thinking that perhaps it's nicer to not have their back story spelled out like this. I realise it's just an interpretation, but the mystery is half of the game's appeal. Maybe I'll just leave it on a shelf...
Blocking is ok, but better is avoiding damage entirely by rolling and evading.
Every other point you make is spot on though.
Best place to farm moss is in Deeproot Garden - the section after the Titanite Demon and before the butterfly. Good place to farm souls too - statue soldiers are 300 souls each and easy to take down if you get behind them when they stand up.
Way to ruin the game for yourself, jeez. However, I can understand why someone might want to do this on their 2nd or 3rd playthrough to get the platinum or whatever. Also, quite a cool way to get to see some of the other character builds at their most extreme. Still, no chance I'm even reading this until I've finished the game. Could be a while...
Or..... don't.
Already made my choice - Dark SOuls arrived yeesterday and am 5 hours in already. Damn its harsh, far more so than Demon's SOuls. Will keep me busy for a loooong time, prob til well in to next year.
From can release a patchg that you have to download if you want to continue playing online though - lots of games do this, you get a message saying that if you don't download and install it you will be signed out of Live/PSN.
So cheaters will only get an unfair advantage in their own games, and therefore they will only be able to ruin the experience for themselves. Muppets.
What a boring voice that guy has....
Still, good score!
@XFON - the graphics seem worse than Demon's Souls?? All the vids I've seen look better than Demon's, def smoother and more colourful. Are you playing on xbox or 360?
I think by excuse, he means apology.
"All in all, the mass consensus was that the Barbarian was literally the worst beginning archetype to choose. I remember one person’s full description of the class was something as simple as “Barbarian: there is no reason.” "
I dunno, I started my second playthrough (I never actually finished my US import copy of the game) as a barbarian, and found it to be ok, though admittedly I had the experience of nearly completing the game once before.
He's ag...
Well, I guess it's cos you can't actually join your friends in this game - there is no lobby, no way to choose who you co-op with. You MIGHT be able to get around that by pre-arranging for your friend to leave their soul sign in a certain area, but even then there is no guarantee that it will show up in your world, not all soul signs, messages, blood stains etc are shown in all worlds, or else the whole place would be littered with them! They must be shared out.
Argh, after writing the above yesterday, I sat down for a little pre-work dungeoneering this morning and what do I see?
Dragons flying backwards at 2fps.
Nuts.
