True but there is a big difference in specs and theoretical power. Last gen sony used theoretical numbers while MS used specs. Specs are specs.
How is an eight times not that powerful? You have to take into consideration a Triple Core dual thread IBM architecture cpu clocked in at 3.2 ghz now give it 8 times the performance. Custom 500 mhz Unified Shaders Radeon Video Card with 10 MB eDRAM then give that 8 times the performance. Take the 512 mb RAM and give that 8 times the performance. Plus a stripped down version of Windows Server 2008 r2. It will be noticable.

Akuma, I really hope the ps4 isn't 600 bucks. From what I've read that it is an a8 quad core amd cpu/gpu hybrid. I built one for a client using a socket fm1 and a triple core at 2.1 ghz with radeon 6550 and 4 gb ram. Good for office but low end gaming. even if they bump up the card to a 6770, still won't be anything "amazing". 600 bucks for that and maybe 2 gb ram is a little TOO much.

I for one like the idea of games being too much for current PC systems. I guess that is one thing I like about PC gaming. Think of it like politics:

Problem with sony is that they wouldn't let optical discs go for the longest time. Look what happened. Apple came in and usurped their throne. Now how many walkmans do you see compared to an ipod or iphone? Same with Nintendo not wanting to let go of cartridge. Funny tho that WiiU might be the only nexgen console with a disc!

True, but if they launch late next year these specs aren't all that to hoot. Maybe the processor but when the X360 came out, the triple core Xenos was ahead of it's time. Now it is average for processing power.

I don't know why you got so many disagrees? MS OWNS the Xenos architecture. That was one of their main goals this gen. If you own an architecture, you won't have to pay someone else to emulate it.
the whole movie playback was to absolve costs with the Xbox. For a long time it didn't matter. We were fine with the Atari, Nintendo and Sega eras. Then came in playstation and they were the ones that touted bc as such an important feature. MS tried to keep up but with different chipsets, it was impossible to have 100%. Nintendo did with Wii but essentially Wii is an enhanced Gamecube with same architecture.
There is some truth to it. A lot of people play video games to escape from reality. Problem is that you can't do it 24-7 so when the harsh reality eventually has to be faced, I could see how one could be depressed. I guess I am fortunate to be busy enough and deal with a lot of real world people but then again, I am struggling to finish even Mass Effect 2. Yeah memory limitations is what holds ps3 back. Look at the Last Remnant? Look at FF14 and probably versus13. I know the speed of the xdr is good but you still need to have actual ram, 360 almost made the same mistake if it hadn't been for Epic and Gears.
