The current consoles look like jokes now. You know something is wrong when phones and tablets have graphics capabilities so close to that of the game consoles...
I wouldn't want to play games on a tablet though, the control method sucks. But still, the fact that they're now so close to consoles graphically just makes the consoles look bad.

Choice is the main good thing about Linux. You can set up your installation of it to be exactly how you want. There are lots of different GUI's to choose from so different versions of it may look completely different.
It also runs much faster than Windows, not entirely sure of the reason but I've always found it to perform much faster, the startup time is pretty much nothing... a few seconds at most.

You can have a crap system and it will still be part of the 8th generation if released now since the Wii-U is 8th generation and any worse systems will still be compared with it.
Likewise the Wii-U is 8th generation regardless if the PS4/Xbox 3 are better or not.
Unless of course it's a simple slimmed down console or small revision, then for example the new PS3, it still uses mostly the same hardw...

Microsoft themselves created DirectX. Sony will have to use some other system since I highly doubt they would allow them to use it.
If a game engine wants to run on other systems which are not Windows or Xbox, they will need to use OpenGL or another API on that system.
