The Fortnite issue was being discussed on main stream media and was the biggest story coming out of E3.

Maybe you should leave this bubble and take a look yourself.

Great to see this finally starting to become real.

Please exaggerate more...

Of the 1 1/2 hour presentation, about 3 minutes were spent talking about the new studios, and approximately 13 seconds were spent talking about R&D on new hardware.

Horizon 4 is 2018. Hopefully Ashen and Below make their 2018 release dates, but otherwise MS is staying clear of the 3rd party heavy Fall much like Sony.

2019 was shown to be: Crackdown, Ori, Battletoads, and Gears. Add in the likely FM8, and th...

It will get the support eventually, but I personally held off because I know the hardware advances are coming. In another 5 years it might be worth a bigger investment.

MS needs to focus on core games right now.

Yeah, all VR has kind of flopped. For the investments made, I'm not sure the return has been worth it. In what, 13 months PSVR went from $399 base unit to $199 Bundles? That's pretty steep.

Without a big enough install base, I fear it will take awhile to see major, Unit shifting software be developed. Insomniacs new IP looks great, but I think that's exclusive to OR.

I agree to a large extent. We'll hopefully see indies and less graphically intense games continue hitting 4kish territory on the X in the future, but I see it dipping to 1440 or 1080 on most intensive games. Not a bad economic entry point, though.

They'll still market it at 4k of course. The S is where I'd worry about FPS, but as much as they are pushing for scalability, 720p 60fps should be possible for most games with some big concessions elsewhere.

Consumers aren't blind to the fact that next gen is coming. We are 5 years into this generation, and we know that the PS5 and Xb2 are in R&D. I much prefer transparency than trying to hide this no-brainer.

If you don't know that next gen will come, than chances are you aren't the type of consumer watching press conferences and reading about next gen discussions on gaming sites anyway.

On a personal note to the article, most of my excitemen...

If it plays the same games, and it's the games that make money, then I think they'll be just fine. I don't see offering options as a bad thing for consumers or their own bottom line.

You can buy a wide range of graphics cards for PC. In that space, it's seen as a smart move to offer budget cards and high end cards. Why shouldn't consoles take advantage of the same? Not everyone can or wants to buy into the high end 400-500 system. But if you can still g...

@Ju

I might need that translated.

The Xb1S is 199-249 right now. Maybe I am a genius, because in 2020-21 it will be $150. If they can still sell games for it, they'll make money they like they do now.

Most consoles sell with "0 margin." The money isn't in the hardware. You know that, right?

Fully agree. If they're smart, they will align a big new IP with the launch of their next hardware to get people excited. Maybe the Initiative's new title will be ready? By opening up the ecosystem to forward compatibility, those who weren't into this generation of Xbox might be tempted by an economic entry point if a big new IP draws them in.

They won't have the same impact we typically see from hardware generation. But because this new approach benefits ga...

I'm probably buying 20-30 of the games that MS showed. Some will be bought on Xbox, PC, PS, and hopefully even Switch. That's more than any other show.

As a gamer, I guess we have a different definition of what matters (I'm assuming you're an investor based on how hard you've been working to sell your product).

I've been following E3 from the beginning, and I have never seen this idea that only exclusives matter at the show. It's at least entertaining to see the goal posts get packed up and removed from the stadium completely though.

I saw dozens of games I'm excited about during these shows. Many of those games were at Sony's show, a few at Nintendo's and Bethesda's, but a shit load were at MS's show. I couldn't care less who has exclusivity.

But you're ignoring the countless hours of coverage of all those other components of E3. Yes, the presentation criticism is getting a lot of coverage, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Like you point out, that's 1. A big part of E3 that gets a lot of attention, and 2. This "experiment" was a failed presentation.

I'm all for criticising the media, but I also know that I have spent hours this week reading about a variety of games, watching ...

E3 has never been covered more thoroughly. From the countless stories on this site, to YouTube, Twitch, and every corner of social media and traditional media and back again. It was all covered.

If presentation didn't matter, than they wouldn't have put on live "music," held an intermission with commentary, and talked about the "story" their devs wanted to share. That was all part of the presentation, was it not?

I don't ca...
