I don't think so. Stop with your BS. HDMI is Sony's way of utilizing DRM on HD media--pure & simple. It holds no other value over DVI, VGA or component.
SOME may SLIGHTLY notice the differnce between HDMI/DVI and component. Just as SOME see a rainbow effect on DLP tvs. Just as SOME may see a difference between 720p and 1080i. For the most part--it ain't as obvious as you like to lead people to believe.

Bottom line on this issue; Sure you can probably program the PS3's graphics chip to scale BUT nothing beats a DEDICATED scaler.
And BTW you guys need to stop the crap about this 720p/1080p. This hardly makes up graphics quality. I play Pac Man on XBLA. It runs at 720p NATIVE. (get it??)

I could care less if Lost Planet is not native 1080p. It looks good! And there's no slow down.
Ask any of these guys if they've finished Lost Planet on the hardest setting, what's their best score in a game or if they've finished Oblivion, etc. They'll probably state they hardly play.
