I bet if Sega released a new console back in 2003 (5 years after launch) we probably would have forgotten the Dreamcast the same way we did Wii U.
@paintedgamer
That X2 chip aren't manufactured like X1 chips are, and they cost more to produce (around $100 more). In fact, I don't think that there are commercial devices that use the X2 chip. If they used that chip the device would have both cost more and come out later because they would have had to establish new manufacturing contracts.
That Shield Tablet has the K1 chip in it, not the X1. The K1 is older, uses a different architecture, and ...
@DarXyde
Yeah, but, unfortunately, unlike the hacked Switch overclock this one isn't persistent throughout gameplay. I think Nintendo doesn't want people overheating Switches. Even with a big warning sign I'm sure there would be complaints if people weren't tech savvy enough.
@Heisenburg
The article states it’s only for load times. It’s near the end.
@meep
I doubt it. Again, the boost mode is only for loading. We’d definitely see some improvement if it stayed on the whole time.
The feature only works when loading games, and it goes back to standard clocks once the game is loaded. It doesn't keep the CPU clocks up during regular gameplay.
Couple of things:
The Switch doesn't need to be super powerful. No console HAS to be super powerful. The NES, Gameboy, PS1, PS2, Nintendo DS, Wii, and 3DS have all done great without being the most powerful console of their generation. Heck, if power was that important the One X would be doing a heck of a lot better, and the Pro would outsell the base PS4 models (which it doesn't).
Second, the Switch is pretty powerful for a handheld. In fact, it ...
Very interesting, and makes me wonder how the games would perform if the CPU could stay in 1.75GHz mode. Also, makes me wonder what this could mean for a Switch Pro (if that is even happening).
So, you think PSVR is terrible too? Because I don't think that's accurate.
Besides, the article isn't even about Labo or the Switch hardware not being up to the task. It's about how the modes feel tacked on and rather uninspired.
The article doesn't mention anything about Labo not being good for VR. It only says that these modes aren't as exciting as they'd hoped.
Well, PlayStation has historically been more than just a console. PS1 was a killer CD player, PS2 a great DVD player, PS3 a “cheaper” Blu-Ray player, and we all know the PS4’s media capabilities.
So, PS5 being more than “just” a console is a gimme. Sony’s always tried to future proof their consoles with their media capabilities.
Others that I think should have made the cut:
Streets of Rage 2
Uncharted 2
Killzone 2
Assassins Creed 2
Portal 2
Phantasy Star 2
It missed its projection by, what, 300,000 units?
Wario had a 3D game
It might sell better than those for a little bit after they come out. The first year a console comes out is seldom their best selling year, the third year is typically.
Not for Q1 of 2019.
33 million in two years is a fantastic feat, actually.
@FallenAngel
But we are in a VGChartz article. They aren’t going to report data they don’t have, so Xbox One will be the next milestone they report.
The GameCube is one of my favorite systems. That and PS1 are probably tied for first for me.
Actually, Genesis is at 29.54M according to VGChartz. So Switch already surpassed it.
Not sure why the Switch is part of the equation. It’s too early to tell, it’s only two years old.
Out of Wii U, Xbox One, and PS4 it’s PS4 hands down though.
