Some encouraging comments from AMD, Intel and NVidia. I didn't think DX12 would bring this much of a jump and kudos to MS if true. Let's just hope it isn't just a marketing tool. As a hobbyist developer, I would love if this is true because I think the DirectX api is quite clean and nice to use. Its just a pity its not cross platform like OpenGL.
The key thing is that games have fun gameplay. Graphics aren't everything and resolution is only one element to consider when it comes to graphics. TitanFall looks like a very fun game. Its not a platform seller for me but I'm sure other people think differently. CryEngine is one of the best game engines in the world and can produce outstanding visuals but the Crysis games left a lot to be desired when it came to gameplay. I'll be playing the PC version as the Xbox One has nothing...
Have you heard of Tim Sweeney? He is the creator of the Unreal Engine and founder of Epic. He worked single handedly on Unreal 4 since 2008 until he let others work on it in 2010. So I think he would be the go to guy at Epic.
Directx 12 will provide a low level graphics AI and a higher level API that abstracts the functionality of the lower level API. Therefore the higher level API should not be too different from DirectX 11. DirectX 12 is basically an improved version of DirectX 11.x that the Xbox One currently uses and it will be added with a software update. Developers will then be able to choose what API to use on Xbox One. I'm currently working with DirectX 11.2 and anxious to see what DirectX 12 will bri...
Anything this team touches turns to gold. They're magnificent both technically and artistically
A truly amazing game. Sometimes you forget it is a game.
I think they're talking about the creation of a game engine, not a game. With better hardware, there are so many new features that can be added. When it comes to dynamic realistic lightning and dynamic occlusion culling, rendering engines can do more than ever before. Then if you look at the different shader stages such as the hull and tessellation stages, things get more complex. The gpu is doing more now that we have the compute shader. From vertex skinning for skeletal animation to com...
When Sony Santa Monica is involved, how the hell is it meant to look anything but awesome? When it comes to graphics, there a few that can match the expertise of their developers.
TLOU is a great looking game but you can't compare a corridor linear game to an open world game like Dead Rising 3. When there is a more models being drawn on screen at once, a higher level of asset streaming in and out and more skeletal skinning and particle system computations, compromises gave to be made to get a good fps.
This is done for the purpose of marketing. CD could release a PC version of the game next month that runs at 1440p native resolution at 60fps with full AA and dynamic global illumination and for the hell of hit, they could quadruple the number of objects being rendered per frame and a GTX 780ti would still easily handle it. Consoles can never match PC and that's not a bad thing because it would defeat the purpose of consoles if they could. Consoles are there to provide a standard set of d...
Both make great products. I just wish top end graphics cards weren't so expensive.
It doesn't work like that. Programmers are not hanging on a string. The hours may be long but a programmer does not have to work extra hours to fix bugs unless they are given prior notice well in advance or it is explicitly stated in their contract. I know this because I am a programmer who has worked on big commercial projects that required a lot of periodic bug-fixing updates and enhancements.
No but you can play on the same machine as new high end games like Bf4 and old games like Deus Ex. PC is the premium platform. Use keyboard and mouse for strategy games and mmos and then pug in a controller to play Max Payne 3. Of course consoles have their advantages but the future is with open platforms like the Steam Box. Steam Box is in it for the long run. More developers need to switch to Open GL and take advantage of efficiency and speed Linux offers.
Can't wait to play Guild Wars 2 and The Old Republic on PS4. Oh wait...
I'm sick of the same dead horse beating arguments. We know PS4 has better hardware and games will either have higher resolution or higher frame rates or both on PS4 compared to X1. Both consoles will have their share of exclusives and anyone who buys either will not be stuck for games to play. So what can Xbox One do better than PS4? The answer is Xbox Live. Multiplayer is massive in games now. Microsoft has a better network and online play should be smoother with less lag and waiting tim...
I wonder sometimes why people support Sony or Microsoft when both are large greedy companies that have closed platforms with closed source graphics apis. Linux and open consoles like Steam Machine are the future platforms for gaming.
Xbox One > PS4 confirmed! /s
I completely disagree. Playing on PC is not about graphics snobbery. Being able to play with higher fps and higher resolution and with faster loading times can make the experience a lot richer for gamers, not to mention game mods. Of course consoles provide a good easy experience and at a lower price but for gamers with the money, PC is the way to go for most multiplatform games. Games like Far Cry 3, Skyrim, Hitman Absolution, Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite, Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider, Ass...
Only an idiot would try download a game that hasn't even been confirmed for PC yet.
Well from what was shown, there was some serious increases in speed. The X1 gpu isn't too different to the gpus shown in Microsoft's demo. I don't know if performance will double but it certainly seems like cpu efficiency and multi-threading will be improved significantly.
