Yah, other studios of similar size to Platinum Games don’t work on 4 + projects at once.
Shouldn't Platnium be pitching to develop Scalebound after they release Bayonetta and their other projects? The multiple projects Platnium developed during Scalebound's development seemed to point to the studio mismanaging projects.
If it wasn’t for the cancellation of Scalebound, Microsoft would likely have tried to purchase Platinum Games years ago. However, since the release of Bayonetta 2, Platinum’s releases have been hit-and-miss. The company also doesn’t own any big IPs, so I don’t think they would be major target for acquisition by Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo or a big publisher.
Call of Duty is being treated like Minecraft. The COD franchise is too big too and associated with other platforms to make Window-PC/Xbox Exclusive.
“Excitement” and “interest” in Scalebound seemed to only occur after it was canceled… However, IO interactive is rumoured to be developing a game involving Dragons for Xbox Studios. So maybe IO Interactive’s title could be branded as Scalebound.
I have seen rumours which indicate that Battlefield 2042 was originally a Battle Royale title. 2042’s controversial specialists may have originally been heroes designed for an Apex Legend-like hero BR. Apparently, Battlefield 2042 was also only developed in 18 months. https://www.vg247.com/battl...
Halo 4 focused more character development. Unfortunately the core plot treads of Halo 4 were abandoned in its follow-ups.
Platinum released a bunch of mediocre titles while developing Scalebound. They also produced exclusives (Bayonetta 2 and Nier Automata) for Microsoft competitors, Nintendo and Sony respectively during Scalebound’s development. Secondly, platinum announced Bayonetta 3 in the same year that Scalebound was canceled. So I don’t see why Microsoft would want to partner with platinum again.
Samsung and Apple smart phones from 2014 are more powerful than the Switch in terms of CPU. They also have better build quality. Smart phones from 2017 can technically outperform the Switch in graphics too, if only mobile games took more advantage of phone hardware.
EA announced a few months back they were planning on expanding the battlefield franchise. However, I simply don’t think the franchise is currently strong enough for expansion. 2042 is already out of the Xbox Live top 50 and it’s not doing too great on PC either.
Maybe, MS wasn’t interested in buying Bungie despite the rumours from last year. MS could easily out bid Sony, if they wanted to.
Yes, Pandemic did indeed develop Mercenaries.
Free Radical didn’t make Star Wars Battlefront 2. The long defunct Pandemic Games developed the original Battlefront 2.
Metroid Dread’s general enemy encounters and exploration aren’t too difficult. That being said, the boss battles are much more fast paced than the rest of the game. I fully understand why some players would find several of the game’s bosses overly punishing. Also, I found the EMMI encounters lost their charm as the game progressed.
I can see two scenarios for COD after the Microsoft buyout. The first scenario I imagine is call of duty being treated like Minecraft. Thus COD would remain fully multiplatform. My second predicted scenario would have Warzone staying multiplatform, while annual releases after COD 2023 being Xbox and Windows only.
Microsoft buying Activision-Blizzard would not make them a monopoly, they would likely be the largest game company in America. However, Microsoft as a publisher would likely become the third largest global game company in terms of revenue from gaming.
Even after buying Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft wouldn’t be as dominant in gaming as say Disney [and subsidiaries] are in film. Disney, frequently since the buyout of Fox, often achieves %60 + percent of overall box office r...
My point is that many gamers prefer console over PC.
People like the simplicity and convenience of a console. I own an Xbox series X despite being able to afford a gaming PC. Most PCs don’t out perform Xbox series S/X and PS5 consoles. Sony knows that putting their titles on PC won’t destroy their console sales. The company is gradually investing more heavily in PC ports.
I really which monetization was focused on special skins or simply bypassing progression. More content should be earn-able.
Cross gen games are being released because the current gen systems are very scalable with their predecessors.
