The issues isn’t Outriders launching on gamepass. Outriders simply didn’t retain enough players to be profitable during its launch year. The title wasn’t Xbox One/Series exclusive, it was available on PC and PlayStation 4/5.
Yah you’re probably correct. It seems like Square Enix just wants to make quick funds as they reduce overall operating costs. Selling an iconic franchise and 3 studios for what is essentially “a steal” seems like a quickly made and shortsighted decision.
Edit: Square Enix Montreal is also being sold to Embracer Group as part of the deal.
I find it shocking that Square-Enix is selling two studio (Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal) , Deus Ex, Tomb Raider and other game IPs for only 300 million. You would think Tomb Raider alone would be worth hundreds of millions. The franchise is iconic and has lifetime sales of 88 million.
Gears of War in 2014 sold to MS for a rumoured $ 80-100 million. You could argue that from 2006-2013 Gears of War was more successful than the recent Tomb Raider titles (2013-2018). ...
The recent Tomb Raider and Deus Mankind Divided where high budget titles, with budgets of around a 50-100 million each.I don’t recall Embracer group every funding high budget AAA titles.
I should of been more specific. I want the large expansion packs to return. StarCraft: Broodwar abs Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne two of my all time favourite titles. I also, have found memories of Half-Life:Opposing Forces , Half-Life 2: Episode 2.
I would much prefer expansion packs make a return.
I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2
343i needs to encourage MS to allow 24-36 month dev contractors . Contractor are only on for 18 months. Contractors should stay on with the company longer, which I think would allow for more efficient development.
The project underwent a full restart a few years ago.
Certain Affinity doesn’t design games. They take others concepts and designs and create assets.
I seen PC modes that show that asserts from Halo 5 can run in Halo Infinite. Why not port over, weapons, some maps and favourite armours from Halo 5 into Infinite? After enhancing and optimizing the assists.
I haven’t gotten around to playing Elden Ring yet. However, I have beaten Demon Souls Remaster, Darks 1-3 and Bloodborne. I didn’t enjoy Sekiro enough to finish it, so it is my least favourite Soulsborne game. Conversely, Bloodborne is favourite Soulsborne game.
I think the Xbox brand is simply regaining some of its lost market share. The series S/X doesn’t have anywhere near the negative PR that the Xbox One had.
I actually don’t think product placement in game is entirely wrong. Sometimes product placement in more “realistic” games can make the world seem more like our own. And seeing a billboard, real world item or company in a game world wouldn’t bother me.
I would only accept this if the ads were none intrusive and MTs prices dropped.
The Studio disclosed that content is being released slower than expected ( https://gamingintel.com/hal... Yet when the studio tries to mitigate the issue you further criticize them? I’ve criticized 343i in the past. However, I understand that many studios, including 343i have faced development challenges for the past 2 years. I sometimes wonder if inheriting the generally toxi...
I found the story telling in Horizon Forbidden West to be fine. My only issue with the story is the cheesy villains that I will not spoil.
Remakes of older games maybe potentially cheaper than making a new title for scratch. A developer already has concepts, an already exists story, character and environment designs and voice audio to work with.
I don’t think this report is valid. As you pointed out Respawn is developing 3 other games.
