And explain to me why it is unfathomable to have a smartphone with buttons? (Hint: Sony Xperia Play)
Before you slam the Play as a failure (I know people that love it but personally I thought it sucked) lets at least accept the likely possibility that future iterations will refine and eventually perfect the marriage of mobiles and physical buttons. I think that is a natural progression once mobiles become taken more seriously as a worthy gaming platform and not just as a &qu...
Priced like a smartphone with games priced like PC games
Sure, it doesn't compare.. for now. Why can't gaming journalism and gamers in general be more forward thinking rather than looking at today's mobile gaming market through a lens?
quoting myself here, "There will come a point where the extra power does little to change the experience of gaming; diminishing returns if you will. If the technology doesn't stop gaming progress then development costs surely will."
Really at this point the only thing left is to shrink the tech down. Personally I highly doubt that consoles will always have a leg up on phones, just because they are larger does not mean they will be powerful enough to the point w...
Thinking back on the really long games that I recently finished.. yep, all pretty awesome especially Xenoblade Chronicles.
This. People need to recognize the change doesn't happen overnight. When people hear the idea of a phone replacing a console they balk in disgust as if we are seeing the best a phone could ever hope to do. Not even close. Look at the best mobile games released in 2007-2008 and the best released in the last year; it's a world of difference, and another 5 years are going to change things even more dramatically.
The thought that your living room console can be put in ...
You are only thinking in terms of today's mobile capabilities and today's development for them. With time and the advancement of technology it is perfectly conceivable that mobile devices will have graphical capabilities that surpass anything that consoles and PCs can do today. There will come a point where the extra power does little to change the experience of gaming; diminishing returns if you will. If the technology doesn't stop gaming progress then development costs surely...
And when you simply stream your mobile to your TV with graphics that surpass what we see in today's games?
Mobile is the future of gaming, and those who deny it are short-sighted. No one is suggesting it will eliminate consoles or PCs in 5 years. But 10 or 15 years, definitely a possibility.
Exactly. Platformers don't really need stories in fact I prefer my platforming to not have much in the way of a story, if anything it should be subliminal. Look at some of the best platformers of recent memory.. Outland, Splosion man/Ms Splosion Man, Rayman Origins, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Meatboy... none of those games have particularly deep storylines nor do they need them. Platformers are first and foremost about fun, imaginative gameplay and environments with pinpoint perfect con...

This game should not be a hidden gem considering its on so many platforms. Android and iOS versions are in the works as well.
When it first came out on DS I bought it and it was one of those rare games that I was obsessed with from start to finish. I eventually bought it for PS3, for the online battles which are a blast.
A must for anyone who likes puzzle games or RPGs.
If you don't like Nintendo games then you are buying their systems for the wrong reasons.
Personally I play my PS3 more than my Wii, but I play just about every Nintendo published or developed game and manage to enjoy pretty much all of them. It's your fault for giving away your Wii because it sounds like you don't even really know its library at all. I have about twice as many PS3 games (85+) as Wii games but there are definitely enough great games there to jus...
Super Nintendo
@jaymart2k The sequel that was canned by Ubisoft.
I doubt piracy is that rampant on android anyway. The average person knows nothing about sideloading and even if they did, why bother going through the extra work to save 99 cents.
iirc most of the piracy is from people in countries where the version of the play store doesn't have certain apps.
Guild Wars 2, hell yes.
Sleeping Dogs doesn't impress me in h slightest. What is everyone seeing in this game? Looks like average at best an nothing we haven't already seen before.
Just no. Mario games aren't about Mario. They are about fun, tightly controlled platforming that doesn't need story as a crutch. Mario personifies these games and there is literally no reason to change the main character; the only changes that matter are fresh takes on the platforming and powerups, which Nintendo has proven they can do time and time again.
Proud to say I own every game on this list... except DDR Mario Mix.
I tried playing it and it was perfect, then again I was playing it while it was hooked up to my TV and paired with a PS3 controller via bluetooth.
Really seems like the argument is against touch controls, not necessarily that its on a phone. I'm sure the experience is much better on Xperia Play.
