Why, is better for Sony and Microsoft to start making services as opposed to hardware. Crossplay regardless of server, sharing games regardless of service. The ability to play games on any device. Turn on the smart 4k tv log in to Xbox Live or PS Now app. Able to refund games. An all digital world is better than having useless consoles lying around. If Rocket League allows cross play regardless of platform the better for gamers

Of course the console hardware is going to be scrapped due to the console business model is no lomger viable. Now we know retail sales; however, consoles can be bought online through Amazon, via catalog through Peach Direct, and now exported/imported. I say gamers are not demanding anything but think whining and complaining while still buying supporting anti-consumer practices, it will solve anything. The answer is a resounding no. Gamers should demand for:
Complete 99% percent bug free games
Free unlockables/mod support
LAN support
Offline multiplayer
Map editor
Multiple paths, secret areas
Us gamers should send game developers back to the drawing board if they fail...

There is no perfect platform. The PC main issue is hardware compability like the author stated in this article and maintenance. Consoles on the other hand get nickel and dime to enjoy gaming.
I am leaning more to the cloud as opposed to hardware upgrades. The fact is upgrading a console hardware wise destroys the 3 tenents of owning a console: Ease of use, convenience, and price. In contrast ☁ gaming retains those features.
