The xbox 360 for a brief time was the go to place to play indie platformers. Keyword indie ; the games ranged from braid, outland (never came to PC damn it), Limbo, N+, Fez, etc. The problem began with Microsoft charging indie and mainstream game developers alike to patch/update their own games. Buried the xbox arcade section under ads (McDonald's commercial not game ads) and multimedia services. No longer supported indie game developers and left them in the cold. With that in...
mainstream platformers well very few like
Little Big Planet
Ratchet and Clank series
Sonic the Hedgehog Episode 1 and 2
That's about it really I mean Nintendo has Mario and does it. Now indie action platformers a shit ton and some of them are puzzle platformers.
For me personally it was "To The Moon" that brought a gut wrenching story about marriage, love, and drama. Is an interactive experience worth diving into. Uncharted for me personally felt like the perfect popcorn flick. The storyline was okay it was the gameplay mechanics that attract me the most due to be able to shoot from any ledge, tree, go from hand to hand combat into shooting without delay. Able to play during the spectacle like a crumbling building that is awesome...
Excellent blog, I too grew up with Nintendo and my biggest problem is that is very hard for me to be completely loyal to one company and stick with say company. I am somewhat loyal to Valve Steam service but Valve mess up when it came to the Steam Machines. Anyways you are spot on Nintendo refusing to move on and it's antiquated online service. The one thing you miss is the fact the wii u gamepad had the possibility to allow gamers to play their wii u games on the go like Starbucks. ...
Prince of Persia was a good popcorn flick that captured the essence of the game. Silent Hill the first one was pretty damn good despite being based on a game. Sadly most games that try to bring excellent and amazing story lines either have little gameplay or is drown out by the spectacle or gameplay design of say games. Like Bioshock great story but it got drown out by the waves upon waves of enemies. To the moon great phenomenal story but very little game play. ......
Umm sounds like a scam
For me :
Amnesia Dark descent
Outlast
What if my PS2 or PS3 break down do I go and repair it, do I go and buy a new one or do I re-buy my Playstation Library through Playstation Plus. By the way Playstation Now will not be added to Playstation Plus subscribers they too need to pay for this service. Me on the other hand is enjoying cloud computing technology for free on the PC.
Except the sexy looking Alienware Steam Machine. I have not upgraded my PC since 20011. 4 years playing games at natively 1080p, 40-60 frames per second and in some cases with Physyx, Vsync, high shadows enabled. I love Physyx shame most games don't have it. The specs of my PC will make you laugh :
AMD Athlon Phenom 2 quad core processor overclocked obviously
500gb Sata 2 hard drive
4gbs of DDR 2 ram
Nvidia gtx 480
...
I built my PC on 2009 and I have not upgraded my PC since 2011 the year the Nvidia 480 got released which is the only thing I upgraded since 2011. 4 years with AMD Athlon Phenom 2 quad core processor which I overclocked (which is free by the way). 4gbs of ram, 500gb sata 2 hard drive. Funnily enough I can play games in 1080p natively at 40-60 frames per second. 4 years without upgrading my PC. Proving once and for all that you only need to upgrade every time a new console comes ou...
New to PC gaming and have not upgraded my PC since 2009 and can still play my games at mid to high settings. With games like to the moon, Amnesia franchise, Outlast, etc. I really don't see the reason to go back to consoles. For what to re-buy my Playstation library, pay to play online, pay to listen to music, pay to use cloud computing technology. All of it free of charge on PC plus pay $60.00 plus tax for games and no DLC content discount. Wow enjoy pay and pay and pay for...
Now that I can't wait every game coming to a steam machine and no longer tied to one platform
No because console gamers love getting rip in the ass they love to pay to play online, pay $60.00 plus tax for their games, re-buy their last generation libraries, love and can't wait to pay monthly fees for cloud computing services. Enjoy limitations, enjoy returning their consoles back to the console manufacturer once it fails. Let's be honest PC gaming today is not the same as it was back in the nineties. A lot of gamers still pretend PC gaming has not evolved at all which i...
Well Microsoft has always been viewed as the evil corporation that does this unethical consumer practices. Sadly mostly is true yet we still support Microsoft no matter what even it's unsecured Windows OS. Raise your hand if you are willing to go from Windows OS to a Mac or Linux? Now this blog is very personal and I really don't care if the blogger chose the xbox one. I just feel that all corporations (Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo plus Valve) mess up big time. Nintendo compl...
I know with xbox one you have to pay $60.00 to play online but do you have to subscribe to a music service like the PS4 music service in order to listen to your songs and when does Microsoft plans to release their cloud computing technology service and it will most likely be chargeable huh. I don't know I still prefer PC gaming for its freedom.
What is a game, a game is a hobby it has rules , goals, and a win or lose situation. A video game started like any game with a set of rules, goals, and a win lose situation. But now can we still call these video games. In Dear Esther there is no win lose situation, there is no goals, and there is no set of rules. So Dear Esther is not a game but an interactive experience. Think about it in all today's games are pretty much set up like movies. You have your beginning, middle, ...
Sorry but interactive experience is a far better term than video games or game. Not that game is a dirty word or anything. The simple fact is this are we not having an experienced while interacting in this virtual world. The answer is yes because we are no longer playing a game were you win or lose. Those days are over we are interacting in this artificial world. We become the characters, we become part of the world and pretty much leave our reality for a brief moment.
I agree nor disagree I mean Dear Esther feels more like interactive poetry or like a benchmark. The reason why is there is no interaction at all just walk from point a to point b. Gone Home is really a mystery game I mean there is secret passages and hidden compartments
Screw the console manufacturers , they are clueless, and pretty much charging console gamers for every single little thing. Screw the corporate publishers they are in it for the money only and have created a lot of mismanagement. Kickstarter is the way to go meaning let the gamers publish the games instead of corporate publishers.
I understand what you are saying the problem lies with Microsoft bullied indie game developers for one only 10mb games only to 1gb to 2gb only to finally no space restrictions. Charged indie game developers for patching/updating say games, no support and no help when it came to advertising. Well now, they are paying the price due to indie game developers are the only ones that make platformers plus adventure games. Mainstream game developers make mega franchise games like Uncharted ...
