Did the MGS4 demo become available in NA?
Not only that, these are the shortest reviews I've seen. If you are going to dumb down a historic exclusive title, at least show it some respect and flush out the review a little bit. Six meager paragraphs that wouldn't have even passed grammar school is poor excuse for any critique.
I love how the entire editorial is based on a youtube trailer.
The funny thing is that part of his argument is to bring up other editorials about the demise of Blu Ray, most of which comes from CNet and ZDNet. Wasn't that ZDNet guy the one that was heavily favoring HD-DVD during the format war? That's my only rationale for his blame on Blu Ray towards Sony, when it's a pretty big association made up of just about every electronics and media company.
My other problem is his complaint of the performance of his Blu Ray machine, which says nothi...
@cherrypie
How can you compare BR to bittorrent? Buying movies through retail and downloading them illegally on the internet is hardly the same thing. As for it being inconvenient, I suppose if you think opening your wallet to buy them in retail or online is really that inconvenient.
As for the advantages of Blu Ray, anyone who watches any movie with great presentation (visuals, sound, action) can appreciate the difference on a HDTV. Sure HDTV adoption is slower here in the...
Just upgrade to 320GB. These 5400RPM HDDs are ridiculously cheap nowadays.
@GiantEnemyLobster
I'll return your words right back at ya. Any system that has to be released again after hardware patches is an automatic flop in my book.
It's 9.5/10, and I don't see why it is so suspicious. IGN hasn't given a 10/10 to any PS3 exclusive besides MGS4. Only reason I don't complain much to IGN reviews is because they don't generate poor criticisms like Gamespot.
I grabbed the first one thanks to the Walmart sale, so I'm hoping to give it a try this winter with the split-screen co-op single player campaign.
Before someone starts blaming this on the PS3, please note that only three paragraphs are related to Sony Computer Entertainment. In fact, sales in that sector has been improving.
It looks like most of its loss can be attributed to its mobile phone sector and the recent acq of Sony Music from BMG. The high yen in combination to low dollars mean companies like Sony and Toshiba are really suffering from sales in the US. In comparison, they are doing a lot better from EU sales since...
Just out of curiosity, I decided to look at some of his other recent console-related "editorials":
I'm still waiting on Wii third-party games
Why Sony needs to stop drinking its own Kool-Aid
Why 'Fable II' is the game of the year
Why iTunes makes Blu-ray useless
Sony must drop PS3 pricing for Christmas
HD DVD lives!
Believing Blu-ray will succeed doesn't make sense
The amazing thing is that this is all just from the month...
Same website (not calling them a genuine reviewer) that called for MGS4, GT5 Prologue, and Heavenly Sword to be fryed, but my main complaint is that he did not review the game as it should have been. LBP is gaming 2.0 (aka social gaming), so obviously "collecting stickers = not especially exciting to a grown man." Play it with your friends, gf, wife, and kids.
As for it being too sophisticated, no one demands that you make a level, just enjoy others who have the inspir...
Geez can we please keep that kind of comment in the open zone to avoid these kinds of long threads.
Anyways, R2 looks like it makes much better use of lighting (from R&C), bloom, and color. Did anyone notice how at 0:50, the chimera doesn't just lock onto you when you disappear from his visuals and your allies are firing on him? I think that's a lot more realistic than when enemy AIs goes out gunning for you alone and your allies only dies from the cross fire.
Actually you can currently get a 320GB for $50 from zippyzoomfly.

Spoken like a true time traveler. Tell me, when did Microsoft save you from the brink of death for you to show such utter loyalty to it?
Actually, I would suggest a PSP. Especially since later when you get a PS3, you can get the connectivity feature between them. Like the ad-hoc gameplay with Monster Hunter and infection mode with Resistance Retribution.
Not surprising considering everyone with a copy just suddenly redeemed their coupons and logged on. Servers have been brought down by far less.
How in the world do you still have access to the gamer zone?
Pretty hard to say on the PS3 platform. It has been the best year yet. LBP, MGS4, and GTA4 will each be best of something, but I think the actual winner will depend on the person doing the ranking. I would pick LBP only because of how fun it is; first game since I was a kid that I could enjoy with my parents and girlfriend.
Only person, who apparently doesn't get it, is Variety's games editor.
I really don't mind these installs if they reduce the wear and tear on the Blu Ray drive (the only source of problems) by even a small percentage. I would hate for my 60GB PS3 to have to sent in for repair or be replaced just because of a bad drive, so anything that extends their MTBF is fine by me.
