I imagine initial stock of disc drives isn't a lot as most produced will be used in pre-built disc based consoles. Stock will start increasing after a few months and production has ramped up a bit over the christmas period

How is it a horrible idea? This way, if all the disc versions sell out and you can only buy the digital edition, you can upgrade it later on with the disc drive. That's better than buying and being stuck with a digital model - look at how many people bout the Series S and Digital PS5 only to sell them so they could get a disc drvie version after a few months.

Why "almost certainly"? IF anything, it'll probably be cross-gen with the current and next consoles considering all the development work will have been done based on current specs.

By being 'Later 2024' it means they can push it to 2025 (which I imagine it might do)

So people are 'worried' about a drive that requires a single check online to activate from then onwards, but they're not concerned about the re-vamp Series X which is going to be Digital only and they're phasing out the disc version so the only Xbox consoles on the market are digital ONLY...

Everything in Turkey is going up atm. I have a Turkish Netflix account - it was around 40TL last year for a month of the highest tier- since then it's gone up to around 200TL, so I dropped to the 1080p tier for 150TL. It's still a lot cheaper than anywhere else in the world, but it's not as cheap as it once was :(

No it wouldn't have... What they're basically saying is the game is boring without bugs - that's not a good thing.

How? The last 'new' game was Last of Us Part 2 in 2020 - since then they've fully remade Last of Us Part 1, helped out with the PC port, and Remastered both UC4 and LL so they're 4k, at 30, 40, 60 and 120 fps on PS5. Not to mention, they're apparently working on a new IP alongside a possible UC spin-off/sequel, helping out with the Last of US TV show, apparently in pre-production of Last of Us Part 3, and working on the MP (although I doubt anyone will care if that project...

Last Remnant came to ps4 as a 4k and 60fps remaster with a bunch of graphical and resolution options, just like Star Ocean Last Hope. But, they never came to xbox one. switch got Last Remnant a few years later though, as did mobile I believe.

They honestly don't. Xbox doesn't actually report most of their expenses under Xbox, they lump them under MS so it doesn't affect their 'profit' for the shareholders.

They didn't factor in any acquisition costs, server upkeep for xCloud, Game Pass payments for games being added, etc... Sony, on the other hand, includes all of those in their PS financials.

Xbox has confirmed PS has over double the profit they make - and that's ...

Yet on the flip side, only around 20% of PS5 consoles are the digital editions. I can see Sony continuing to ship consoles with a drive, even if Xbox decides to scrap it. It does mean all those who have been praising Xbox for their BC feature will be annoyed when they find out they'll have to re-buy all their physical games if they want to play them again.

The slide says that the current Series X is gonna be EOL just as the disc-less version launches. That means, if there's no drive attachment, that they'll be only digital consoles in production from next year

September has the launch of the Spider-Man 2 PS5 consoles though, so even if the Xbox had a few more sales, I imagine the PS5 is still around 3x more for the month.

The game is over 130gb on Xbox (not including the deluxe bonuses). That's the point. It comes with one disk, so it literally can't contain the entire game.

Plus, to meet retail timelines, it would have been pressed for retail about 2+ weeks ago, so it won't even contain partial 'gold' code considering it only just went gold.

My point is, everyone went mental when it was found that the game would just be a code in a box, with people eas...

So, what's on the disk then? I only has one and the max is 100GB. Considering it's only just gone Gold, I imagine it has either unfinished code that simply won't run until you download the latest files, or a small 300mb placeholder which also forces an immediate download.

Either way, all that fuss about possibly getting a code in a box was pointless because physical editions are drink coasters, if the servers go down or you don't have the internet, you can&#...

@Lightning77 - super early?

It's only about 2 weeks away, some publishers send out review codes up to a month in advance - Sega, Atlus, NIS America, etc... Two weeks is pretty standard

Cute, you think Xbox is gonna release another console...

My prediction, which I said a while ago, is their next 'console' will be a streaming device. But, it won't stream Xbox Series X versions, it'll stream PC versions - most likely piggybacking off Geforce Now servers in a new deal.

That way, they won't lose hundreds of millions in R+D on a new console that less than 8m people will buy (Series X estimates), and they'll have game...

"In the past, releasing the Xbox 360 a year before the PS3 worked pretty well for Microsoft." - how?

They rushed to release the 360 before the PS3, leading to millions and millions of defective units breaking and MS having to lose over a billion dollars with free replacements world-wide. Then, millions invested in R+D so they could produce new units which didn't suffer the same fault.

Not to mention, they never were close to selling the same...

The guy 'forgot' to mention he has a 4090 and 64gb RAM... With that setup, and using DS 1.2, it's practically not even using the HDD anyway. So not really a real world comparison

904d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Obviously, there's a hint towards trying to bash Sony in the article - something you expect from The Verge. A standard HDD is only mentioned if you're happy playing the game at 720p and 30fps at very low settings - it'll look like a PS3 game I imagine, with a lot of cut-back lighting, textures, physics, and additional items on screen. As such, running from a mechanical HDD won't be an issue.

Now, if you were to try and play the game at PS5 settings on a regu...
