Where on earth did I admit I am always dishonest and sensationalist? I simply said, with my *columns* (emphasis on columns, as in personal opinion pieces) I like attention grabbing headers.

It's an opinion piece.

Part of the reason I gave it that header is to see exactly the kind of reactions I'm getting. If I named it "overhype may hurt Dishonored" people would simply nod and move on. This way, I get to interestingly see how many people don...

Because there's zero point talking about Call of Duty anymore. It's long reached past its fanbase split.

Either you're sick of it and long stopped playing it or you love it. I'm part of the former group. It stopped innovating after CoD4. WaW popularised zombie mode, but after that the rest is tiring to talk about.

I wrote a whole piece on CoD at the beginning of this year: 4871d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I'm a big fan of God of War. I think you're slightly misunderstanding though. I'm not calling Ascension a failure, I'm saying it's a little disappointing that they didn't be bold and new with the franchise, like maybe create a new world, character and setting, take it to Norse Mythology or something of the sorts.

We've already had two prequels to God of War and the main series ended. So I'm not against the game, it will probably be good, but i...

SPOILER WARNING

I completely agree, you echo many issues I had with Max Payne 3 myself in my review. It wasn't Max Payne. It was a Rockstar game, and that's why it got overloaded with praise, especially since Max Payne is 10 years into the past and most probably didn't even play those games before playing Max Payne 3.

Max Payne 3 for me had no relevant story (it was rather pointless), no profound meaning, and no characterisation, use of setting, g...

Even so, it's much nicer than what Capcom did. Which is: complete a game and then lock away characters and make them paid DLC. Without the 'Free DLC' Tekken has more characters and features. And they're promising to develop more in the future for free too.

Whatever they want to brand it as, it's a win for us gamers in a time where developers just like to milk us.

That's unfortunately a flaw of many sandbox games these days. The gameplay is still good.

I fully understand this, and I mentioned in the article that I have no problem with in-game help and optional tutorials :) What I do have a problem with is, and Assassin's Creed is always a good example to use, when I've played the first three games in the series, and really want to jump into the new one and get on with the story, but then there's a twenty minute section explaining to me basic mechanics I've already mastered and forcing me to carry them out as though I've ...

As the writer of the article, Nate-Dog, I completely agree with you :) I understand that it didn't affect you as much, but I was just really let down because I loved the series so much. I'm not a huge BioWare fanboy by any means, but I always was really fond of Mass Effect.

In all fairness though, the game only came out two weeks ago, so everyone is going to want to have their say on it. That's why you're seeing such a huge amount of Mass Effect 3-related art...

I haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet so I can't yet comment on the effectiveness of its RPG elements.

However, I do wonder where this "absolute developer power" mentality amongst gamers comes from. Yes, whiners can be seriously annoying, but I believe it's a two way street. Game developers would be nothing without us, and we would be worse off without them. WE made Mass Effect famous. WE want it to be the best that it can be. This is the final game in the...

@Danteh
I mentioned in the article that this kind of thing usually isn't taken seriously. However, when something like this happens to a big game, users are generally trying to send a message. It happened to Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops, and I can't call it entirely unfounded.

For me, I like to siphon through the trolling and truth. I ignore user "scores", but I read what they write, because while Mass Effect 3 is obviously not a 2 out of 10 or any...

Agreed, it isn't pointed out to you directly, but I just felt that it didn't have to. You could argue it the other way around as well, that it doesn't explicitly force you to kill them. :) And I'm sure if you really didn't want to kill them, you could just not press the fire button and see what happens.

Same here, completely agreed :) I don't have any problem with content like this. The intention of the article was never to say the content is wrong. Ba...

I'm sort of aiming this reply at Dark_Overlord as well. Good point raised, but you have to realise that in that level you have a choice as well. To completely skip it, or to not fire a single bullet. You cannot tell me you didn't realise that you can just not "click" or press a button. It amounts to the same thing. If you don't shoot, you become a watcher. Exactly like the scene in Syndicate.

Personally, I had no problem with Syndicate's or Modern W...

I don't think Microsoft will get involved in the handheld crowd to be honest. In terms of quantity, the PS3 right now has a lot more exclusive titles, and the biggest sellers for a Microsoft handheld would be Gears of War, Halo or Forza. And the other big issue is on the tech front, as in what Microsoft will do to beat the Vita, or differentiate.

Microsoft are marketing pros though. It's a tough one. They're still trying to get Kinect out there, and adding a new ...

To be honest, I don't place any faith in demos whatsoever. They're never a good judge of a game's quality.

For examples, the demo of Mirror's Edge had me convinced that the game was amazing, but the full game was just average for me.

On the other hand, I hated the demos of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Killzone 2 - they left me completely underwhelmed. But when I played the full games, I completely loved them, they were amazing games. <...

This is the last comment I'm able to make sadly :( But I enjoyed reading your response, and it brings up a very good point actually. Thanks! :)

However, I didn't forget about that point, I just decided against using it in the discussion. See, as much as it is actually true despite fans' rejection of it, the undeniable fact remains that Call of Duty cannot be blamed for other developers failing to stick to doing their own thing. That's why I didn't use this...

Whether that's true or not Oschino, don't miss the true point behind Gamer-Z's comment. He is very right in that the original Modern Warfare was massively influential to the market today, and brought fame to a great many trends you now see in practically all multiplayer shooters.

For example, CoD4 really highlighted the now famous perk system, it brought fame to personal player challenges for bonus experience online, it really emphasised weapon customization and f...

Hey guys, I'm the writer of the article, and I'm glad to see the active discussion taking place here :) However, I am a little sad that there are BF3 Vs Cod arguments going on. That wasn't the intention behind my article.

It was me trying to understand the massive negativity surrounding CoD these days, and in all honesty it was because as a gamer I felt upset at what Call of Duty has become. For me, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sits with the likes of Battlefield...

Thanks bud! :)
Yeah, Rayman was a really strong contender, but as you saw from our conclusion it was a pretty big dilemma when the three of those games were put up against each other.

Yeah, the VGAs always boggle me, and I'm not quite sure how they select their nominees or make up their minds about anything really. I mean, I don't think I saw Battlefield 3 or Rayman: Origins getting nominated for Best Graphics, but I don't think they consider artistic ga...
