I think a lot of people like me bought Doom 3 without waiting for reviews because they were big fans of the Doom series. When such a well known franchise releases a sequel of course it will sell well but that doesn't mean it was a great game, it wasn't even that good. Single player was a little dull, too dark though what you could see looked very very good for its time and still does now.

Multiplay was really poor though, its like iD just couldn't be bothered. As a long time D...

It seems that in the US then the cost of a traded in title is fairly priced. What I was gettign at in my post above was that in the UK shops such as GAME and Gamestation will take your trade-in and give you say £15 or so depending on the age of the title of course but then it will go back on the shelf at around £37 which is just a few pounds short of the £39 brand new price for the same title.

Trading in at stores only helps the store owner. Gamers get ripped off with trade in prices, at least that is true in the UK. You might get £15 for a game on trade in and then see it back on the shelves marked up at a few pounds less than the cost of a brand new version. "make a game that no one ever wants to let go" even classic games like Gears of War, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, Metal Gear Solid 4 get traded in. In the long run I think it will only end up hurting the end user ...

You don't need sales figures to chart Sony's success just look at the frequency of Microsoft press releases having sly dig's at Sony.

Well I looked hard but couldn't see Bugs Bunny or Tweetie in the picture with her and yet I thought this must have been a Loony Tunes production?

I gave an example. I never said it would affect everyone what I did warn is that just because you've not had a fit and never shown any symptoms it doesn't guarantee you will never have a fit. In the UK around 1 in 20 will have one seizure in their lifetime, approximately 1 in 131 people will have epilepsy. My figures are from the British Epilepsy Association. In the case of my friend he was an ex soldier, still fit and healthy. He smoked but rarely drank and at the time of the fit was doing o...

A friend of mine who was in his late thirties and been a gamer since the days of the Spectrum suffered an epileptic fit whilst playing a PC space combat game. He was fit and healthy (ex soldier) and never showed any signs of epilepsy until that day so its a good thing Sony have delayed Wipeout to ensure its safe for everyone. Just because you've never had a fit or shown any symptoms doesn't mean you won't ever have a fit.

Is PC gaming dead? no..well not yet. Why do Blizzard make money? well maybe its because they are one of the very few developers out there who release a product that is not broken from the moment you open the box. Blizzard have a great history of releasing quality games that have been supported well, Warcraft III had a new patch only a few months ago - the game was released 6 years ago!

To be fair Valve have done a pretty good job too but two developers do not make a platform. ...

Factoring in the cost of a TV for console ownership is a ridiculously flawed argument. How many households do you think that are in the market for a current generation games console don't already have a TV?

Monitored? you must be kidding? how about all the reference's to Sony fanboy's you left untouched here? My comment about THAMMER1 having a man crush on Tomonobu Itagaki was a tongue in cheek remark aimed at pointing out the ridiculous notion that if you don't like Itagaki you must be a Sony fanboy yet you could easily point the finger right back and wonder why people have an irrational attachment to a developer that they need to so strongly defend him.

He may not be the best public speaker but I'm sure thats a trait a lot of people can empathise with. There's a lot of kids out there who have never had to do any public speaking and won't understand the pressure and nerves when doing it especially in the media spotlight like he does and will jump on his every word. So what if he fluffs a few lines, it just shows he is human. I'd rather that than someone who may be slick and self assured but comes across like he couldn't care less about the pr...

Companies like Stardock have released games without copy protection and they have sold well, I think when publishers treat customers with some degree of respect and trust its returned. The threat of casual piracy I believe is over stated by the publishers to excuse the draconian copy protection methods they employ that only serve to hurt the legitimate buyers. The larger organised pirate groups cater for the crowd who will never buy the publisher software anyway but because of the draconian c...

I don't have the answer to stop piracy but I know the answer is not copy protection in its current form. I understand why developers want to protect their IP but the current copy protection systems hurt the honest end user who buys the product while it takes the pirate a few minutes if not hours to remove that copy protection and distribute it over the internet.

I've seen an increase in discussions online amongst PC users where they will download a pirated copy because 1. the d...

I have RACE 07 on the PC so racing fans on the XBOX format are in for a treat though its an odd choice of exclusivity considering its a racing game and that genre on the 360 is hamstrung by a lack of decent steerign wheels. You'd have thought by now MS would be courting the likes of Logitech to make wheels as the PS3 has the choice of quite a number of the Logitech wheels made over the years including the top of the range G25 as well as high quality wheels from other manufacturers like Fanate...

Why not just own both? you get the best of both virtual worlds. We're not talking about owning two consoles, just two £40 games.

For once Bruce decides to post an article not damning Sony, I don't really care how much you protest otherwise Bruce your bias is clear when it comes to discussing the current console line-up. Like the boy who cried wolf, you now post a reasonable point but still catch flack for your past behaviour.

So far as this article is concerned, yes the ecomentalist's annoy me too when they go too far. Unfortunately to get their voices heard they have had to resort to some pretty silly s...

They may well make a loss in the first few years of the life cycle of the console but they make a lot of money on the games which is why when they launch new console's you can only usually buy them in a bundle with a few games. They make most of their money off software until production costs come down and then they make a profit on hardware which given the life cycle of 10 years that they plan for the PS3 and the fact the PS2 is still selling in large numbers its easy to see how they can aff...
