Article says it's specs blow away the competition, then names some utterly irrelevant facts that say little to nothing concrete about its processing power.

Not to mention comparing Nintendo's next gen console against the PS3 and the 360 is completely illogical. One is based on new and much more efficient production processes while the counterparts were released 5 years ago. Gee, I wonder which is going to offer the best value proposition in the current market?

Oh what, does my pointing out your anonymous, fanboyish and chicken-shit disagrees make no sense and resemble some neanderthal’s grunting disapproval offend you?

Aww, didums.

The larger a creative industry becomes, the more it becomes centered around chasing the mass market at the expense of creativity. When it's sufficiently small it can make unique and interesting games catering to a niche. Once it gets big enough, the only way it can sustain returns is by gearing design towards safe mass market products.

If you look at movies, the name of the game for years has been to tick at least 2 of 4 demographics, of young male/female and adult male/f...

It's true:

1 - The big name publishers and console companies are more and more chasing the mass market. They're pushing the media entertainment and pick up and play motion control aspect far more heavily than before.

If anyone remembers last E3 and how when they announced Kinect, the overwhelming response from gaming journos was along the lines of 'why are they spending so much time showing off the gimmicky kinektimals, the media integration ... a...

Apparently 3 people actually thought it was going to look shit, who would have thought.

If consolers had private dedicated servers, it would be an easy matter of kick'n'ban.

Pretty much all modern batteries for laptops are li-ion, and they diminish in capacity over time universally. Nothing Sony or any other company can really do about that.

No large reviewing site has the balls to give a major franchise by a major publisher a sub 8.0 mark unless they mess up particularly bad.

One, the fanboys will swear to stop visiting their site and two, the major distributors will stop giving them pre-release review copies as punishment.

We'll be up to MW5, the graphics might have been updated, there might be a new setting but the gameplay will still be this same hackneyed drudge. It'll still score 8+...

Common sense wins again :)

Morrowind was far from perfect, I'm just saying that Oblivion was incredibly overrated.

I do remember the Dark Brotherhood quest, mostly because everyone raved about it and I ended up pretty underwhelmed at the end. In fact that, the Oblivion portals and mudcrabs is pretty much all I really remember. Whereas I can recount whole swathes of Planescape: Torment.

I feel like people unduly praise Oblivion because it's one of the first truly open world RPGs that came out on consoles.

Sure it was a huge and at the time, really pretty open world. But so much of it was full with copy pasted dungeons, identical enemies and dull quests. As far as the RPG elements go, it was a massive step back from Morrowind. Skyrim may end up everything Oblivion could have been but I'm not holding my breath.

I like how this is one of those stories where there is no usual fanboyism and everyone is universally agreeing to abhor shameless money whoring.

But DUDE there's this awesome TheLegendofKarl guy advertising it who I can TOTALLY RELATE TO and is no obscenely obvious way an embarassing attempt at viral advertising.

But the problem is they also feel effortless. I remember CoD4 matches where 60-70% of my kills easily were from kill-streaks or nades.

And as far as sequels go, the kinds of things that they're adding with Elite is the kind of thing that should have already been a game like this for a blockbuster of this size.

I mean hell, take TF2. It came out before CoD4 and it had everything Elite is offering: private clans (hilarious how this is a 'feature' fo...

The game sells well because its multiplayer is cater made to be easy enough to play by anyone, and because it has the financial backing from previous genuinely good games to waste huge wads on endless scripted movie-like sequences devoid more or less of any gameplay. It's what the mainstream lap up after all.

But sure, you can simplify it into money = quality and then tier games into how much they make if you want.

Haven't bought a game from a brick and mortar here in Australia for over half a decade. Even that was a used game.

CoD1/2 - Great bunch of games.
CoD3 - There was a CoD3?
CoD4 - CoD goes mainstream. Multiplayer regresses from skill-less perk additions.
MW2 - CoD officially sells out.

The others don't bear mention.

Equating the biggest game out there with quality is exactly what's wrong with most reviewers these days and the hype culture around games.

Critics gives games like GTA4 critical fellatios, yet take a look at what users actually think of them:

It mentions it right at the bottom.
