It all comes down to game design. The reason why this is a problem is because of the way the rewards system is designed. Some gaming execs have gone it stuck in their head that since CoD is doing so well, EVERY multiplayer FPS needs an unlockable weapons/items/perks system. Since this gears the game around individual success, not team success, it messes up games like BF3.

Same thing with the CoD series itself and camping. The game's risk/reward is such that camping works ...

They're different types of games. Witcher 2 is a heavily narrative led story with plenty of choices and some branching mission paths and a vastly more exciting combat system.

Skyrim is a much more open ended, free form and dynamic world (see dragons) with more raw choice but will less attention and care paid to its main storyline.

I personally enjoy The Witcher 2's style more, but they're vastly different games despite both being RPGs so it comes ...

1. There is a need for them.

Not before there weren't yearly franchises.

2. Guitar Hero/Rockband were fads.

Games like CoD and Assassins Creed recycle far too much of the content from each release. CoD in the overall singleplayer, and AC in the mindless filler task missions you can get.

Yes, CoD does include some multiplayer additions every now and then (although I would say most of these came in MW2, and horribly bloated...

You have to hand it to Activision for the gall of their business model.

They've standardised the release of an FPS videogame franchise on a yearly cycle. Something that to that point had never been done.

They've also pushed up the price people were previously used to paying for, for DLC.

Now, they're not only speeding up the process of DLC being released, they're selling you old maps as a loyal fan you would probably already o...

That lag is ever an issue that's not fixable on your end for an FPS astounds me. I don't know how you consolers accept being pedaled P2P instead of the option to hire/buy dedicated servers.

If you read:

"Again I'm not saying anything new here other games have done this, and it would not in any way ruin CoD's infantry close quarters no vehicles feel."

So no. None of what I said has anything to do with BF3.

Let's see ...

1. A story with characters which aren't completely forgettable and a coherent plot.

2. Branching paths for storyline. Imagine a hostage mission where botching the rescue can send you down a completely different mission afterwards. Or at least change your objectives somehow.

3. Elite features for free. Other lesser revenue generating games and Valve are doing it, so can Activision.

4. Continued support fo...

Atomic is more a techy PC magazine than a games review magazine, usually game reviews (PC or console) get only like 10 pages at most.

Having said that they're generally pretty fair and don't give outlandishly high scores often, I've seen them rail against a couple of AAA titles to know that they're being honest.

@frostyhat123

Bias is debatable and subjective. IGN is arguably the most popular game reviewing website, okay sure. But IGN being "one of the most respected reviewers". GOOD SIR, I THINK NOT.

Good -

1) Assuming it's not all one path scripted, which it very well might be, then that is a lot of contextual dialogue events. The guards knowing who you've got hostage was brilliant. So was most of the other dialogue, more games need to do this.

2) Visually looks great.

3) Sound design and the ambient overtones fit very well.

Bad -

1) Showing walking routines is a sign of how simplified games ha...

"PCs are a game of money. If you have more, you will have better, prettier and more fluid experience. If you have less, you will have ugly graphics, low resolution and loads of stuttering."

If you're talking specifically about multiplayer competitiveness, usually it's an advantage to turn down the fancy effects as it makes you more observant with less going on. At least it's true for many FPS titles.

As for low FPS, since everything ada...

Activision: Our market research analysts have concluded that we can get away with charging our fans $75 for additional maps we could have put in our game if we had release cycles longer than a year! And they'll gobble it up like pigs at the trough.

Activision: But don't worry, if you want that and everything PC gamers have had for free for half a decade (including clan support, playing in a team for those who have been living under a rock or started playing games at M...

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the developers, but nevertheless if I buy (or preorder) the game it's taken that endorse this action.

It certainly could have built on what made the first one great. Imagine if it took inspiration from the first one and added a mind control aug for getting past puzzles/obstacles as an alternative. Hell, they've already put the concept in the game anyway. What if they significantly added the dialogue and went as far as hav...

1. Oh, it would have been totally doable in first-person and preferable. Something like how the TF2 spy works but with glitzier animations. If they had pulled you into third person like the cover system it would have been fine too. But making you watch animations you've seen dozens of times from a 360 angle while everything else is inexplicably paused just smacks of bad design.

2. Somewhat agree here, but the problem is, it takes away from the RPG elements if your charact...

In many ways it stays true and is definitely one of the better reboots but it's hardly perfect in retaining the original's brilliance.

1 - Takedowns are a blatant attempt appeal to mass market and feel very tacked on. If the aim is immersion, quicktime events that freeze time and remove you from the action are contradictory.

2 - Augs have been simplified and are no longer crucial or necessary to survive. Most of them are more conveniences.

I expect when the next generation of consoles rolls around there will be a massive leap in resolution, AA/AF and more complex lighting/shader effects that aren't able to get 60 let alone 30 FPS at the moment on what is honestly pretty aged hardware.

In the last few years, console game developers have really been riding on some pretty impressive optimization on their part but once the next generation eventuates even unoptimised it's hard to see anything at today's ...

The reason for this is a lot of games nowadays pick a model and stick by it throughout the game, without much change. Assassin's Creed is a good example of essentially the same gameplay with minor changes from beginning to end. I don't blame people for not wanting to finish games like this buy they didn't always used be like this.
