Well then show me a console game with support and free updates for this long?

When you consider this came out a month before CoD4 (October 2007, nearly 4 years ago) and how many new features, modes, items, maps and general awesome content this has received, it really has the hallmarks of arguably being labelled the greatest game ever.

"He doesn't understand the issue with the bill is that it may hamper freedom of speech, because any game could be a victim of the "violent" label and stores may not want to carry that particular game."

Thing is, that is a 'very' American notion of free speech. Most developed countries have legally enforced video game rating systems for years which have not been abused in any such way. Effectively it doesn't matter anyway though, and the mai...

1 - Wireless headphones in general sound subpar because their power input is severely limited. Virtually all upper end headphones from respected manufacturers (e.g Sennheiser, AKG, Beyer ...) require additional dedicated amplifier units to get the most of their sound.

Wireless headphones are then double gimped by a need to compress the audio further to transmit it by bluetooth.

2 - 'surround sound 5.1/7.1' headphones are a complete gimmick. Again no b...

And hugely wasteful. Most will be lucky to see 10% of the cityscape for more than a passing glance.

Hell, I was so bored by the repetitive gameplay and the obvious direction the plot was heading in the last act (arson) I gave up on it altogether.

Obviously it's an inexperienced developer from a country without exactly a reputation for game developers to say the least.

It doesn't look 'bad' though for what it is. Most developing countries begin by imitating western companies and then building on their successes once they have mastered that. Give it 5 years and they may be making something everyone here will want to play.

Steam isn't light. At least as far as a way of giving you the ability to merely play the games you've bought.

It's not quite the iTunes of gaming (it doesn't force you to install a QuickTime equivalent) but let's face it, it's designed to sell you things when you may simply want to play what you bought.

1 - Retailers add no real value. They distribute, that's pretty much it. If online (both physical and electronic media) can do it cheaper, all the better.

2 - There are no mum and pop videogame stores. Not where I live (Brisbane). There are chains that grossly overprice games though.

3 - On the whole though, if Steam dominates PC gaming too much, the result will not be good. Valve is a business like any other, if they get too much monopoly power they'...

And yeah, Witcher 2 slays everything on consoles on a souped up PC. I have a PS3 and have played Uncharted 2 on it. See clip above on 1080p if you don't believe me. And 1080p youtube streaming pretty heavily blurs it by the way.

No, but we have hit the wall of never ending generic FPSs.

@unkn0wn

All the more reason you would already have a Blu-ray or certainly a DVD player.

It also doesn't change the fact that from Nintendo's point of view it is a good business decision if the vast majority in wealthy countries already have access to high speed broadband and on the whole streaming movies it taking over with the majority.

@gaffyh

By that logic we should have 2 of everything at the very least. Hugely wasteful if you ask me.

It's why you can't buy a phone nowadays without at least a cheap-ass camera in it. What if I don't want to waste money buying things I don't need? No choice nowadays. I'm glad Nintendo is not choosing to waste my money unnecessarily.

Pwetty, but it looks entirely skill-less to play, that is between the quicktime event.

My main problem with this series is just how repetitive every game has been. The first abysmally so, and the next 2 were hardly that much better.

Ubisoft have been riding the coat tails of admittedly really nice freerunning movement for far too long. To add to that, they somehow decided the plot of the original wasn't convoluted enough and decided to pad with additiona...

As far as DVDs, everyone has a DVD player now, surely.
For Blu-rays, right now Netflix is already the biggest bandwidth user in the US. This is before the Wii U is even released. Given it 2 or 3 years into the next console lifecycle and this will become as important as having a floppy drive on a modern PC.

Barring AAA production values the gameplay is frustrating as hell. Most of the effort goes into trying to figure out what the developers intended.

Sometimes you can call a lie on circumstantial evidence. Sometimes you can't. Sometimes there's 2 pieces of supporting evidence but the game makes you guess which one it wants. Plus it's a complete gamble whether Cole decides to go full on inquisitorial on their asses or plays good cop.

For all the fuss...

Uncharted 3 - It looks pretty and is probably fun to play but there is nothing original about it whatsoever.

Gears of War 3 - Again, what exactly is original about it? I don't follow the series but baring some completely unexpected and daring gameplay addition it seems like every other 3rd person shooter out there.

Kinect - I can only laugh at it. It does have its originally but it's like if I was a car aficionado and they released an original moped. ...
