Nope. The software-based emulation only emulated the Emotion Engine chip. The consoles actually had the PS2's Graphics Synthesizer chip as part of the hardware. Since GS isn't emulated in software a simple firmware update won't do it.
I really like my PS3. I like the games I have. I'd love it more if there were more fighting games and action platformers like Jak & Daxter. There's a serious dearth of those kinds of games this generation. Ratchet & Clank was good, but the game was on rails. That took away a lot for me, but even that was an awesome game.
You must not realize that it is still possible to play online games on the 360 without a wireless adapter. It's called CAT-5 Ethernet. It's been around for a very long time.
Interesting take. Good job.
Pull the wool over people's eyes? You can't fool the willing. People didn't pay less for any hardware, but many got a better value. Getting a console at $199 or $299 with 4 to 7 games included is a value, not a ripoff. It doesn't matter how you spin it.
I believe you're talking about something completely different. There's a difference between online levels and someone available to play them online with you. Only once since I picked up the game has anyone ever been in a level when I play online. And I mostly just play the user-created levels lately.
In case you haven't noticed, full firmware updates are released for the PSP. Every time a new one comes out I need at least 25MB free on my memory card to download it.
Nice! Thank you.
Ugh...another flamebait blog.
Actually a recession often leads to deflation. So many companies are forced to sell their products for less than it costs to make them. It's not a matter of being smart and keeping prices high to protect yourself during recession.
If Sony felt that they needed to boost their sales they would cut the price, but so far they haven't seen a need to do so. If they started losing more market share they would drop the price, because the cost of doing nothing would be more than what the...
Keep in mind that a market isn't defined by population at large. The market is defined by the demographic that is both able and likely to buy your product. I doubt that many infants are out there buying consoles so that they can get their Halo or Resistance fix on.
And if you're going to throw out population by region, you need to include all of North America, not just the US. That's closer to 530 million.
If you can see what the PS3 is going to be selling by the end of next year then maybe you should be looking into lottery numbers and give up on forecasting the console market. There's no way to tell what either system is going to sell over the next year.
Wow...flame suit put on!
DVD may not be just as good in terms of picture quality, but the real question is whether DVD is good enough to keep people satisfied. I don't presume that I can answer for everyone, but I can say that there isn't enough of a compelling reason to start replacing my DVD collection with Blu-Ray. I'll buy some new movies on Blu, but for the most part DVD is still good enough.
Doesn't seem to really be that big of a factor, does it? It didn't hurt the 20GB PS3, either.
If Sony were making that kind of cash on the PS2 and PSP they could afford to subsidize a PS3 price cut. So why aren't they dropping the price? My guess is that the PS3 is already being subsidized at its current price point. If they were making any sort of margin on the PS3 they would have cut the price to boost the install base.
Episode 3? Really?
And I liked Jedi Outcast much more than Jedi Academy.
Is it a mandatory update?
I would think that the 360 would have been outsell the PS3 this weekend. With the bundle deals out there a 360 purchase was very compelling, especially at the price.
At the same time, which current platforms use the color green as a staple in all of their advertising? Typically you see the PS3 use a lot of black and red and the Wii uses a lot of blue and white. Black, white and green show up a lot in 360 advertisements.
I suspect that the color is every bit as important to solving the puzzle as the symbols are, so you can't just dismiss it. Not to mention that the power symbol is the centerpiece of the 360's green ring of light. Considering t...
