I disagree with your comment mainly because forcing yourself to play a game can influence your opinion on it because you might not be able to play it to suit the way you want to play it.
I mean review scores are stupid anyways, as are game reviews in general. I'd take someone's impression or opinion of a game far more seriously than a number and you usually can form a very valid opinion of any game after even a few hours with it.

nah FFVIII had some flaws that made it not as as good as FFVII.
Like the non-sensical main story, characters with no story or motivation (Zell, Selphie, Quitis, that cowboy guy, pretty much everyone in the party except Squall and Rinoa), poor equipment, magic and GF system (compared to 7 that is), okay music but largely forgettable (again compared to 7).
Laguna's flashback parts were pretty good though.

I disagree. The story was drivel from RE2 onwards. The first one was the only RE that had any mystery to it, the rest was all about that "evil corporation." Each game should've been made as its own standalone story and setting imo.
You forget that even though their job is playing games non stop reviewers do get game fatigue and that can influence their impressions of a game. They also have to rush through a game, which means they might not play it the way they want to. Its only relevant to finish a game if its story driven but even then, meh, who cares. Reviews are pretty much redundant and scores are meaningless.
Its also very ironic you point out "gamers as entitled" in your comment.
