I am actually looking forward to the Wii zapper. Aiming is the best part of the Wiimote imho but keeping the wrist extended forward is un-natural and causes strain. The Wii zapper should make aiming more natural and easier on the wrist.

I hope it does well and all games with aiming support the zapper from then on.

I have been through a few acquisitions (both from the acquiring and acquired sides) and there is a very predictable pattern.

At first, both sides will spin things positively. The first product out will be of the same quality as before since it was in the works before the acquisition. The top brass and some specific talent will have signed a contract to stay at least 3 months to 2 years after the acquisition (typical more 6 months to 1 year).

Then the acquiring si...

I think what he says has some truth, gameplay-wise both the excellent Bioshock and Halo 3 did not innovate much on last-gen. Graphics and physics were improved though to match next-gen.

In the end though, both have very fun gameplay. I still play last-gen games and Arcade\PSN\VC games, old and current style of gameplay are still very fun. When you add next-gen effects and capabilities it still makes great fun games.

Now, as far as what is truly next-gen gamepla...

I thought the demo was pretty good and it showed that this game might be worth playing. I liked the squad element and how you could both direct your allies or become them. That reminds me of the old Xbox game Brute Force. Just like Brute Force back then, this game's biggest challenge is going to be to get noticed among a crowd of more hyped games.

I think Halo 3 was better than Halo 1 and 2, Bungie did a great job to improve and move the franchise forward. However the hype generated was just unrealistic, no game could meet that hype level. You have to be realistic and forget the hype, then you can really enjoy the game as the developers meant it to be. It's not perfect but it is really good and what the fans wanted.

Even in this digital age, such a magazine still makes sense for now.

I was actually surprised when they stopped it, I thought it was too early.

For the cutting edge people, downloads are the way go. However many people in the US don't have online connectivity or don't have a fast connection. I don't have this issue but I know people who do. It's also a question of convenience (no need to wait for a 1GB+ download) and it will relieve download-day bottlenecks slig...

Digressions aside, the main point of my reply to post #5 is that the analogy used to try to portray Sony as the sole supporter of Blu-ray was quite unfounded when in fact they had more support.

To be fair, a format is created by hardware manufacturer. In this case Blu-ray is supported by Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Pioneer, Sharp, Philips, Denon, JVC, Marantz and some obscure chinese vendors whereas HD-DVD is Toshiba and some obscure chinese vendors. So in this case, it is Toshiba who is going against the industry and by your analogy Toshiba is Hitler.

As far as the PS3, Sony just followed a normal progression PS1->PS2->PS3 with CD->DVD->BD. The biggest iss...

I agree with you 100% that it makes no sense to try to call one console the winner and all the others failures.

Now to try to answer your question as to why people are still doing it, it is because they think that if a console gets a bad "rep" or a bad "aura" of being a failure, developers will jump ship and stop supporting the competitor's consoles and just focus on the console labeled as "the winner". It's also to scare people into NOT buying the...

It actually makes sense for some people to have more than 1 PS3. In my case, one is in the main living room and the other one is in a bedroom. When people are watching Blu-ray movies or playing games in the living room, I can still use the one in the bedroom. The PS3 is a great Blu-ray player. Having access to games in the bedroom now is just a bonus.

It really only makes sense for people with more than 1 HDTV though.

Relax people, a lot of posts about how it's no match for the Ipod. Seriously, it's not intended to be a portable MP3 player or compete with them. It's a novelty item, like Aibo was, in fact if you read it comes from the same original group.

It will have a very small niche market just like the Aibo had. The market that consists of techno geeks with plenty of disposable income.

Just look at this product for what it is, a funny novelty item.

I have a lot of respect for Sony as a hardware company, they make great electronics. However, their history for software products (except games) is not that great.

Itunes, the 360, Tivo and Amazon all already have dowloadable shows and movies; Sony is a little late here. They make an announcement and don't show anything working? That's too little. Hence too little too late.

This smells like their CONNECT and ATRAC fiasco all over again. They really should have...

I expect this to be like a next-gen KOTOR. People who loved the KOTOR games should like this game. Likewise, people that didn't get into KOTOR probably won't like this game either.

KOTOR games and Oblivion had a lot of talking to NPC and some branching, I don't see how this is a problem.

I agree. People just jumping in the game and expecting "Blazing Angels" or gameplay like that will hate it. Once you go through ALL the tutorials, practice some and understand that you are riding a dragon, then the game is enjoyable. You don't expect a tank in a game to drive like a race car, why do people expect a dragon to fly like a fighter jet?

It's not perfect, far from it, but as you say it has it's moments. Replaying the levels a few times is often needed beca...

True Blu-ray needs a cheaper player but it will come from other manufacturers.

Sony is moving in the right direction with lower prices, you just can't expect them to have the cheapest player out there. They never do since it's not their way, quality is their game.

What I take from a game like this that is getting a wide range of reviews is that it is a "rent first" game. Some will adapt to the controls and like it, some won't adapt and hate it.

Maybe in a patch\update they could add thumbsitck controls to address people who don't like the motion controls.

I don't write often but this needs a reality check. I've been in the optical business for a long time and I have seen a lot of companies from that country make a lot of claims of breakthroughs. In all the cases, it was always only conceptual, made to be a big deal only to get funding for research or IPO money to build a company, in all the cases 5 years later there are still no commercial products to be seen, only more prototypes to string investors along.

I'll believe it once ...

Okami is easily one of the best game I've ever played, within top 20 all time at least. This award is well deserved. Too bad Clover Studio was closed I would have liked to see more games from them.

At the very least, Capcom which owns the game should make a remake for the Wii, the Wiimote would be very natural for this game.

I agree that competition is good and that monopolies are bad for the consumer.

However I agree with Odion also, monopolies are very very hard to overturn unless there are outside governmental intervention (anti-trust almost happened but was overturned after change of policy). So until a major paradigm shift happens in the world of computing, Microsoft's stranglehold on the business PC market will continue. The best Apple can do is stay afloat and keep it's existing user base h...

I'm not going to comment about the merits of PC\Mac over the other. It comes down to choice and personal circumstances. However, the Mac minis exist to address the price point you mentioned.
