its mainly for 2 reasons.
1. 360 is doing well in the US and the media there tends to ignore whats happening in the rest of the world unless it backs up their story.
2. Americans buy American products, its the same thing in the car industry. Go to America and you will see on the road mostly American cars and not many japanese or European cars.

thats funny, I've had a few goes on it and I haven't needed to pay a cent.

A lot of it depends on your taste and what your used to.
I prefer the clean style of Sonys OS to the 360.
And just like Sarcasm said, you can change the display to however you like by either downloading previouly made themes or creating your own.
plus when you pick up PS3 in one hand and a 360 in the other you can feel the difference in quality of the hardware.

Fact is I don't see why they would cut the price so near after Christmas. You want to get most of the sales during this period, otherwise just a month later and you've missed the boat.
I can see why they would deny a price cut until it happens because otherwise the sales will stop till it happens.

As soon as MS bring their next console out they will have to start rebuilding their whole games library again.

You have to remember that they have a business to run.
Its all well and fine to expect price cuts, but if Sony are maintaining their market share without it, then what is the point.
If you lower the cut to below what it costs to make it, then the expense will eat up all the money made by the extra console that were sold.
Cutting the cost of the console will help get more sales, but if those sales are not covering the cost of making the product, then that is a bad business mo...
