It boggles the mind how so many people want the industry to follow the lead of a multinational tech behemoth that has been throwing its weight around the console industry for 20 years without winning a single generation to show for it. What could go wrong?
It's worth noting that the Lorne Lanning did not complain about the game not being profitable. He got buyer's remorse after seeing how many people downloaded the game and thought of the potential lost sales versus their initial sales expectations.
I'm drawing the distinction to point out there are multiple potential downsides to these deals. People keep pushing for the industry to hop aboard the Game Pass model (i.e., Day 1 releases) without care or considerati...
You trust the publisher you're implying somehow bamboozled PCF out of royalties by tricking them into a contract that allows Square to put the game on subscription services but doesn't count the profits from doing so toward the recovery of Square's development costs that is contingent for PCF to be paid royalties?
Surely, a publisher like that wouldn't try to put out a positive spin by talking up how the game has "gotten off to a good start," the ...
"My guess is PS users were turned off the game due to knowing Xbox gamers were getting it for 'free' while they had to pay $60."
Suppose that's true. That would still be a ramification of putting the game on Game Pass.
How's this for simplicity?
Step 1: Take the money you saved by not buying a proprietary SSD and pay someone who will be more than happy to take your money for spending a few minutes doing something so simple, and still benefit from a faster drive than the proprietary SSD.
@P4rrot
The old adage applies: Consider the source.
Where in the law are companies prevented from making specious legal claims?
Companies often use such forward claims to trick consumers who assume the company is the final authority on the matter into compliance.
Edit: In addition, the "agreement" in this case is one that is forced upon the consumer after the sale.
@Foxtrot
Do you honestly not see the irony of raging at AAA single player game developers because some elements of a story weren't to your liking, only to later fly into a panic over Sony's direction because a couple of new acquisitions might maybe potentially release live service games?
What about your fandom would encourage a publisher to take a risk on a AAA single player experience instead of going for the easy live service money?
@Orchard
You had no problem playing sales numbers and lecturing about how corporations with shareholders function when you needed an excuse to crap on PSVR2 and excuse make for why the attach rate argument you were trying to use against it didn't apply to Game Pass:
"1. How many units? They just say it sold more than the past models combined, but we don't actually have numbers to work out if that's 10 mil or 100 mil.

No lies detected.
Retailers love tricking people into thinking they need to spend hundreds of dollars on an HDMI cable to go with the game console they just bought. Those cables are sold at a high markup. Some items, like consoles, don't have much profit for the retailer if any at all. Selling expensive accessories is a way to make that sale profitable.
"No idea why anyone is downvoting you."
It seems at least some are n...
"There is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL between different HDMI cables supporting the same standard (digital signal is digital)."
Tell 'em.
@Eidolon
I feel like your reply being limited to only 3rd party cables undermines the basic truth of what Epicor said. I would prioritize researching the expensive "official" cables if anything. I have never had an issue with a 3rd party HDMI cable being junk. I look at re...
@porkChop
There are clearly people posting who can't at least be honest enough to own their positions.
Calling something a joke does not erase the racism behind it.
Claiming people get offended too easily does not erase the intent to offend.
There is no need to question whether it was honestly offensive when the intent was obviously to offend.
"Is what he said honestly offensive?"
It was meant to be.
My 3 biggest things off the top of my head and in no particular order:
- The visual upgrade. I expect the experience to exceed the resolution difference between headsets because PSVR2 includes foveated rendering, meaning the PSVR2 not only renders at higher resolution than PSVR but is also more efficient with the resources it uses to render objects.
- The updated controllers. The Move controllers lasted to see 3 generations and provided some good VR expe...
You make some decent points about how at the end of the day the goal of these platforms is to entice people to spend money on their platforms. However, I do think there has to be some consideration for how much can be gained by going exclusive versus staying multiplat when buying a 3rd party publisher whose price tag is significantly based on releasing on multiple consoles.
"Word soup, saying everything without saying anything. This could mean mean PC, devices, Stadia...
That's your interpretation of what was said, but it's not what was actually said. The keywords are in the question that precipitated the answer:
"Q: Bungie has future games in development, will they now become PlayStation exclusives?"
The "in development" contextualizes everything that follows. The comment doesn't address all future games, only those "in development." There are numerous like qualifiers throughout ...
@Earl
I saw you spreading the same falsehood over in another article and was going to reply to you there, but the article was failed, so I'll reply here.
This is not about 3rd party deals (which MS gleefully pursued). This is about MS being MS.
There has been a lot of denialism over the years about Microsoft's intentions and what they would do to the console market. Defenders treated critics as wrong, fanboys, or toxic for reje...
@Welshy
Maybe ask for clarification if you don't understand what I'm getting at before accusing me of using a strawman argument? Thanks.
I was piggybacking off of your observation (that MS opened this can of worms) to point out the irony of people defending MS in the past by insisting that their particular presence is required in the console market to promote competition.
@Welshy
"If this spirals out of hand, just remember who it was that opened this can of worms."
The company whose presence in the console market people defended and insisted was necessary for competition?
You're here to read the white hot hate after people said what MS was doing would pressure competitors to do the same, because Sony bought a multi-platform studio and is keeping it multi-platform after MS bought up studios to make their games exclusive?
"No hobby is more filled with hypocrisy than gaming."
That explains why you aren't raging about MS being "anti-consumer" compared to Sony for buying multi-platform studios and m...
@lodossrage
"When everyone wants the industry to follow the 'netflix of gaming' gamepass model, it's like they aren't even looking at the problems netflix is facing right now."
I didn't want to elongate my post by touching on that, but you are right, and that has been on my mind.
People dismiss the misgivings both Nintendo and PS have expressed about the viability of that model and want them to follow the ...
