Good grief. Just don't buy the thing. That's how you challenge it. No need to get hyperbolic to try to force a narrative. I have my own concerns around whether they have realistic expectations about the specific market for this at the price point and whether they're prepared to support it through slower times until the price makes it more accessible, but the price is because of the cost of the tech, not because people "don't challenge scumbag mov...

Maybe not at that price. They would be taking a big risk buying up a product for which demand may not match the retail price.

Because they are disproportionately more interested in taking shortcuts to get where they want to be than they are in putting in work to get where they need to get.

They also have had spotty results from temporary or permanent 3rd party exclusives.

"If Sony did that they would be out of business ."

If ANY of the other major home console manufacturers that have existed to date did that they would be out of business. Some have gone out of business for less. Daddy Microsoft's money is what keeps Xbox alive and free from the consequences of subpar effort. MS has shown over two decades that Xbox is nothing more than a means for MS to come in and take over a market that others grew. This is how lax Xbox is thr...

"GWG continues to be absolutely dire and in need of putting down" is the narrative Xbox wants to come out of this.

No, 28% growth is not "good regardless." You know who sets the bar that high? Those who need the growth to be that high. Is 28% growth "good regardless" if you need 40% growth to break even? Is 500% growth "good regardless" if you need 5,000% growth to break even? These percentages mean little on their own. They exist within a set of expectations based on relevant factors.

Compare and contrast Orchard making sure to post the first comment to tell us there was obviously going to be an increase and to spin a narrative about how it's not screwing consumers during an economic downturn to Orchard's response to Sony's price hike:

"Outrageous - no one else is increasing the price of their console and Sony could obviously afford to not do this.

"Also no price increase in the US, of course, it’s the only wester...

Somehow I doubt I would receive the same leeway to respond to your insults in kind, so I'm just going to leave this here for you deep thinkers to digest and consider as it relates to the suggestion that Microsoft couldn't resist following Sony's lead.

Microsoft arguing to the CMA reviewing the Activision acquisition that Sony's price increase is reflective of its market power and ability to do so without fear of losing ma...

Obviously? Obviously?! Oh, okay. Now that Xbox may do it, it's "obviously." A foregone conclusion. The logical outcome. No need to hyperventilate about how anti-consumer it is and using it to push the anti-consumer narrative as hard as you can. Nope. It's Xbox, so it's "obviously" instead.

"But the main thing is they aren't right now, and the prices are staying...

Wasn't it Microsoft that claimed Sony raised the price because of their unshakeable place atop the market? Can't argue Microsoft is just following the leader while they're arguing the leader is in a unique position to do it because they don't fear competition.

"No effort from Microsoft was ever judged fairly."

Takes a lot of effort to put forth minimal effort for the better part of 20 years and use the consequences as pretense for why you should be able to buy up publishers instead of making an effort.

Got a 404 error on the gamesindustry link, but I can vouch for the information having been out there. I commented on it 6 days ago, and Darth worked out that MS might be including Vita in the PS numbers.

Someone doesn't have to be Microsoft, but because Microsoft has the money to hang around for two decades despite blunders and substandard efforts that would have driven other major players from the market, people conflate Microsoft with healthy competition by default. Xbox has survived because Microsoft's money affords them much greater room for error than anyone who has gotten involved in the console market to date.

I'll add that the allegation of Sony getting complacent because of its position in the marketplace is ironic coming from a company making a good argument for why they would have gone the way of Sega if not for being propped up by a parent company that has dominated other markets.

Somebody said it.

If they are a trillion dollar corporation and still, according to them, can't, not once, dethrone Sony in over 2 decades, maybe they should exit stage left. Forget PS for a moment. Why would any reasonable gamer be comfortable having a company with such an abysmal record assuming stewardship over two of the largest and most popular 3rd party publishers?

I'm not normally one to advocate for price increases. Why would I? The increases to PS5 hardware and software are not the rare exception. But I can maintain that position while rejecting this nonsense no fear of retribution narrative MS is trying to push.

Hardware increased in some areas because of global events. I could go on a tangent about corporations, profits, and my objection to the corporate mentality that losses should be absorbed by the customer rather than cut...

I suggest you actually go examine that history to get a better understanding of the differences in philosophy and approach between the two. I'd recommend starting with the history of Sony's relationship with Naughty Dog versus Xbox's approach to acquisitions, talent, and IP.

Crash was the Playstation mascot, but owned by Naughty Dog's publisher, Universal. People to this day wonder how Sony let Crash get away, but the reason is Sony realized the real value ...

You don't have to agree with something to defend it. Ever heard the saying "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"? You went so far as to question whether jznrpg read the review.
