@Sully

Apparently the rational and objective position is MS gets to comment on a whole nation because a regulator blocked their gaming deal, but PS fans shouldn't comment on MS. /s

Ad hominem, ad hominem, ad hominem...

You say all that, but, like the OP, given the opportunity to bury us with the types of evidence supported salient points that supposedly differentiates your commentary from ours, all you did, like MS, is crryyyy because someone disagreed with you.

You don't have to agree with me, but I dare you to compare your commentary on this article to mine, see which of us did more to make points relevant to the UK decision a...

"Just look at Durden's list."

Just look at Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog was 3rd party under Universal when they made Crash, which was the de facto Playstation mascot. Playstation didn't get the IP. They did get Naughty Dog. (it's interesting to look at some of the other Playstation notables who were in the same orbit at Interactive during that time. Let's just say, you wouldn't have a PS5 or Spider-Man as you know it wit...

"What are the credentials of the CMA?"

Asked "343_Guilty_Spark."

I love how we now want to challenge the CMA because they ruled against MS. MS is a multi trillion dollar international corporation. The CMA is who they implicitly (if not explicitly) agreed has authority when they decided to do business there. You weren't challenging the CMA's authority when they were ruling in MS' favor. You were mocking "poor Sony.&quo...

I don't think you have multiple accounts. But I also didn't think communism is when the market leader tries to stop other companies from competing. Goes to show what I know.

Thank you for this example of what is considered a rational comment by the camp that complains about the PS fans on this site. Hopefully the rational person who has been logging in on multiple accounts to down-vote PS fans will give you at least 40 up-votes to offset any down-votes you get from irrational PS fans.

June of 2013. We're still short of a decade.

Don't you know? Sony bought Insomniac to get the Sunset Overdrive IP and lure over all 3 Xbox players who bought it. That's why it was the first game they... Oh, wait. I'm mistaken. It wasn't the first game they released after being acquired. Or the second. Or the third. /s

What's 343's point? There isn't one.

"So wtf are you trying to say?"

Excuse me? You're real mad for no (good) reason right now. Calm down.

I said what I said. Look at what Phil Spencer said, and then look at the CMA decision. At this point, I'm tired of doing the legwork and posting it for people who just want to spout off.

The failure to consider any external factors and the limited scope of the comparison are its biggest flaws. After reading your post, I looked more closely at the data they're using. They're calling attention to the 39 million unit drop in FY22 from FY21. What they don't mention is the 93.9 million spike in FY20 compared to FY19.

I did consider that the PS5 releasing in Q3 of FY20 might have something to do with it. Maybe people were buying less games in FY19 be...

There's still a potential appeal, which admittedly is an uphill battle, but supposing it's dead in the UK when all is settled, what do you mean by only dead in the UK? What are you suggesting would happen in that scenario?

"The reason they blocked ... wasn't because of Sony's complaints," but "the deal isn't over" because "Sony did everything to try to block it"???

Moving along. You can complain about it being a market that barely exists, but Phil Spencer's past public statements fit hand in glove with the CMA's reasons for blocking the deal.

"When you talk about Nintendo and Sony, we have a ton of respect for them, but...

"Microsoft did not use the term cannibalisation in terms of ALL of the sales getting canibalised."

Nor did I say that.

"That means 280k GPU players might potentially buy the next game if not on gamepass, or invest in the DLC."

You made some assumptions in your math to get here, but let's overlook that to get to the ultimate point. Put a pin in that 280k GPU players who might potentially buy the game or invest in...

"Exposure does pay the bill."

No it doesn't, and I mean that literally. I get where you're trying to go with it, and it's based off of a lot of assumptions you're making. What I'm saying is let's settle on what we know for fact (and that's an easy one) before we start speculating or assuming speculation to be fact. I wasn't trying to get into the debate on GP as an economic model again, but since you assert that you broke it down la...

"That is not necessarily how everyone buys games."

That is how it works for everyone. People literally still have the chance to buy the smaller title. They may choose to go with a $70 AAA instead, but that does not negate that they had the choice and chose.

"I had to choose between the resident evil 4 remake and Dead Space Remake, I liked both games...I chose Re4 because I knew I would get more out of the game. But that robbed Dead Space o...

"What is worrisome is when someone buys a $70 dollar game it robs them of a chance to buy a smaller title."

It doesn't rob them of the chance. They had the chance and chose the game that they chose.

That doesn't necessarily mean the title that gets passed up by those who prioritize will be a smaller title. It can be another $70 title. Take Ubisoft AAA games. A lot of them get knocked for being repetitive, and they tend to enjoy substant...

That's because a lot of Nintendo titles will still be at $70 a year later. I can see myself buying titles like the next Zelda for $70. But what it does is make me less willing to spend on other Nintendo titles that aren't as high on my list.

Funny enough, the scientific approach would be to seek evidence to support or challenge the claim rather than accepting it at face value. That said, some things are more common sense than others.

People will prioritize and take less risks buying an iffy game at full price. The increase may even trigger those who can afford it without making changes to their purchasing habits to consider their backlogs and wait until some titles go on sale anyway because it's smarter to ...
