an extended warranty can cost up to 10% of an item's actual cost.
I think the ps3 extended warranty at launch was $60 - $100. Correct me if i'm wrong

For a quick check of up to 15 devices that i have owned, only two of them (the 360 + laptop) gave me problems within the extended time period being discussed (2nd + 3rd years) & both these problems cost less to solve that if i had gotten a warranty for the laptop. (fixed my own damn red ring)

So, if i had take...

At this rate the term "Professional games journalist" is going to have the same reaction as "Professional Wrestler"

And that might be insulting to wrestlers

i cant say i agree with that. In terms of statistics, if i go about buying extended warranties for every high end piece of equipment i own i would still be in the hole.

extended warranties are worked out to always be in the favor of the company. That's y they hire actuaries.

i dont know about actual failure rates but everyone i know with an xbox 360 (including mine) got red ring + no one with a ps3 that i know has had any problems.

I think acceptable electronic failure rates are about 3%.
The 360 obviously has a higher death rate than that so they were forced to extend the warranty. Note that this still did not deter legal action against them cause the ACCUSATION (hasn't been proven in court) is that they knowingly made a faulty console

If they keep making the statement enough times maybe it will come true + 480p will look as good as 1080p

maybe if they closed their eyes + clicked their heels they could be in the present generation

u gotta love that little ps2 monster. The only one with a hardware jump.

maybe, just maybe sony knows what its doing after spending 14 years in this buisness.

But of course u will disagree

while we think that WII owners are stupid for being duped into buying gamecube 1.5 for $250, a lot of PC gamers will think all console owners are stupid for allowing publishers to exploit us with DLC.

Expansions on this scale used to be FREE before M$ & sony started this crap

THE GAME HAS NOT EVEN BEEN OUT FOR 2 MONTHS!!!

I know HD gaming isn't cheap but spare us a thought once in a while

I totally agree with ur statement that just because som1 has not been convicted, it does not mean that they are not guilty.
However, i along with the rest of the world, do not have the resources to verify the buisness practices of every company.

All i can do is simply be guided by what information does exist

Also oil companies (+ diamond companies) form cartels which are a bit different but i get the point and i agree.

Remember, microsoft is preven...

okay hutch. Price fixing means that the manufacturer stands in the way of the retailer in setting the price for the consumer.

I have never heard of sony being convicted of this but if i am wrong then i would gladly accept proof + pick up another hobby like reading or something

thus far nintendo + MS have both been convicted of this though nintendo is presently appealing their conviction

if u are not willing to allow the market to decide price then u are,...

i say give people the chance to carry their vision to as many people as possible.

If you looked at the earlier batman movies you never would have guessed that along the way it would yield an oscar.

Its a journey - a painful one

microsoft + nintendo = Price fixing bastads

dont own anything (in term of gaming) from either cause of it

Although i must be fair + admit that the 360 games are very competitively priced and is the reason for their massive sales.

The scale + depth of ipod/iphone games are nowhere near to what is available for psp + DS.

It has an audience but i dont think there is much overlap with psp + DS
Its for people who want to play the occassional game.
Right now its like comparing speilberg to a porn director.

It is targeting a very different audience. It is easier for sony to do what apple is doing than vice versa

So its probably apple who should be worried as PSN is growing
