Yes, it is great.
Yeah, it'll only work on your console, but you can make a backup. Funny thing is, you can't make a backup of actual Wii U disks (unless you have a special type of disk drive) :P
It's back up in Japan, so it should be coming to the rest of the world in a month or two (or three).
The Wii launched with what was (at the time) more advanced than any previous competitors console online. Nintendo just didn't realise how many improvements the competition were making with their consoles online, and couldn't patch it into the Wii because the biggest Wii system update they could manage was getting rid of MP3 playing capabilities.
They never really "got away with that". It's been the most wanted OS feature since the Wii U and 3DS came out.
Also, Nintendo consoles barely ever fail, so it's never been a problem for me. (my DS, Gameboy, Wii, N64, SNES, and NES all work to this day(they're like Nokias)).
Why do you think you're renting the games? After all, you own the game forever, never having to even connect to the internet to use it.
It's not renting.
Really, Nintendo has transitioned quite well. Some of the games that came around launch for the 360 and ps3 had much worse, well, everything.
But honestly, they should have expected this just by observing their competitors struggles with HD. It's a little late to be adjusting now.
Great review. I would buy the game, but I'm short on money (having no job will do that to ya) so I don't want to spend money on a game like this only to miss out on games like MK8 and Smash Bros. down the line because I have no money.
I guess I'll have to buy it when I get a job in 6 months or so, it looks like a great game.
Huh. They have said they probably won't be making full games, so I wonder what it'll be?
I think they could probably do a great Talking Tom-like game with a choice of the Mario characters. After all, the only reason I was unimpressed by Talking Tom is that the characters are completely unlikable.
I mean, just imagine being able to stroke Luigi's moustache on your phone. That's got me sold already.
Wait, going by that image there, it seems that both the top and bottom screens are displayed on the gamepad, split vertically. It works fine for brain age, as shown here (because brain age had you holding the DS sideways anyway), but it won't work at all for most DS games that have you holding the DS upright (provided the games use buttons).
Maybe the screen positions are game-specific?
Maybe this is just a mockup and in no way represents the final product.
Hmm, seems like the first part of the menu is solely gamepad rendered, like the TV remote and Nintendo symbol on startup of the system. That menu will come up whether you're in range of the console or not.
Could this be a sign of further gamepad-only features to come?
Good to see Nintendo taking the speed comments people were making to heart, even if their system was never much slower than competitors systems.
Also, interesting fact, the GamePad h...
How can you be sure it'll be worse when we haven't seen the Wii U one yet? Assassin's Creed IV looks just as good on the Wii U. Aside from wind simulations, the devs haven't said anything else about the next-gen ones being better.
Also, I'm getting this on the Wii U for the gamepad.
So much colour! It'll really grab people's attention in the stores (And it'll look great on my shelf).
Calm down. There's probably an advanced upscaler or something.
As BosSSyndrome said, when you buy a game from the Nintendo eShop you own it. There is no renting with Nintendo (unlike PS+ "free" games).
They've never really given a console game a good try, though. They're all spin-offs that usually aren't that great anyway.
If done right, with the right amount of advertising, a full pokemon entry could definitely sell well. Probably still not as well as the handheld ones, but well enough to make a good profit.
Estimates? lol
It's actually really handy. We're in the process of getting a new TV right now, so we've got no TV atm and I've been able to continue playing the Wii U (and even Wii games, through Wii mode on the gamepad).
If I didn't have the gamepad I think I would have been wondering what to do over the holidays.
I'm sure they would have put a map on it or something if it was a different type of game. As it is, it's hard to think of a good way to use the touchscreen in a 2D platformer like this without it just coming off as a gimmick.
Well, you pretty much gave away what you thought about it, then you insulted the fanbase. Yep, you're getting disagrees, even when you were trying to be sensitive towards the fans that might actually like Mario. -_-
